The upcoming PlayStation Plus Premium tier of PlayStation Plus will make hundreds of PS1, PS2, and PSP games available on PS4 and PS5. As of the time of writing, Sony has yet to announce which games will be added to PlayStation Plus's new service, but a few potential names have leaked out already, and there are some Sony-owned properties that are all but guaranteed to be added. The PS1 has a stacked library of amazing games that could come to PlayStation Plus Premium and a killer line-up could convince a lot of people to sign up for the service.

The entire PlayStation Plus model is being reworked in May and June, with PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now being merged into one. The service will be split up into three tiers, with PlayStation Plus Essential taking over from PlayStation Plus, PlayStation Plus Extra taking over from PlayStation Now, and PlayStation Plus Premium adding retro consoles to the service. PlayStation Plus Extra will add PS4 and PS5 games to its line-up, and it already has PS3 games available via streaming, so subscribers to PlayStation Plus Premium will have access to games from every Sony system, save for the PS Vita, which could arrive in a future update.

The new version of PlayStation Plus is due to roll out soon, yet Sony hasn't announced any of the retro games that will be added to PlayStation Plus Premium. Sony has revealed that 340 games will be added, implying that there will be over a hundred games each for the three retro systems,  but no names have been given. There are some obvious games that will likely be added to Sony's PS1 line-up on PlayStation Plus Premium, while recent leaks have referenced third-party titles that could arrive.

First-Party Sony Titles Likely To Come To PlayStation Plus Premium

Twisted Metal New Game TV Series Report

By far the most likely PS1 games to come to PlayStation Plus Premium are the ones that Sony wholly owns the rights to. These include the Twisted Metal series, the Jumping Flash! games, the Wipeout series, the Destruction Derby series, PaRappa the Rapper and UmJammer LammyKurushi, the G-Police series, Overboard!, the Gran Turismo series, the Lemmings series, the MediEvil games, Ape Escape, the Colony Wars games, and The Legend of Dragoon. Some of these games might be hindered by the fact that they have remakes available for sale on the PlayStation Store, but Sony might decide that it would rather have as many titles on this new service as possible at launch.

Bandai Namco Games May Come To PlayStation Plus Premium (According To Leaks)

The new PlayStation Plus service needs big games to survive. The big question regarding PlayStation Plus Premium involves the third-party publishers that were the backbone of the PlayStation line of systems for the longest. If Sony can get companies like Capcom, Square Enix, and Konami on board, then it will have a meaty library of titles to add to the service. The ability to throw the old Final Fantasy and Resident Evil games on the service, along with titles like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Metal Gear Solid will be a huge draw.

It seems that Sony has at least one third-party publisher on board, and it's a big one. It was recently revealed that PS1 and PSP games were added to PSN ahead of the launch of PlayStation Plus Premium, with internal ID numbers and cover artwork. Those games were Tekken 2 and Mr. Driller for the PS1 and Ridge Racers 2 for the PSP. This means Sony has Bandai Namco on board, and that can lead to a number of interesting games, most notably Tekken 3, which was one of the best games on the system. If Bandai Namco are on board, then that means games like Soul Edge/Soul Blade, the Ridge Racer games, StarbladeTales of PhantasiaTales of DestinyDragon Valor, and the PS1 Pac-Man games could be on the way. Bandai published a lot of individual games on the PS1, but they were mostly licensed titles based on anime and manga, and most of them never left Japan, so they're less likely to appear on PlayStation Plus Premium.

PlayStation Plus Premium May Get The Worms Games (According To Leaks)

Worms

After Tekken 2Ridge Racers 2, and Mr. Driller were added to the PSN backend, they were joined by two other games: Worms Armageddon and Worms World Party. As of the time of writing, these are the only five games that have been added. Now that PlayStation Plus seemingly has Worms games, it suggests that Team17 is on board, which means the original Worms and X2 could come to the service as well. There were also Worms games released on the PS2 and PSP that could arrive on PlayStation Plus Premium in the future. It bears mentioning that the two Worms games mentioned above were not included in the PSone Classics selection on PS3, unlike Tekken 2 and Mr. Driller, so this suggests that Sony isn't just copying over those games to the new service, as some had theorized.

PlayStation Plus Premium Could Get The Syphon Filter Trilogy

In terms of more concrete evidence regarding upcoming PlayStation Plus Premium games: there was a recent age rating listing that may confirm some of the games coming to the service. There were several entries in the Syphon Filter series rated for PS4/PS5 in Korea, including Syphon Filter and Syphon Filter 2 for the PS1, and Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and Syphon Filter Logan's Shadow for the PSP/PS2. The Syphon Filter franchise is owned by Sony, so there was always a strong chance that it would appear on PlayStation Plus Premium, and the age rating is just a more solid confirmation.

What's unusual about the age rating is that two of the Syphon Filter games are missing: Syphon Filter 3 for the PS1 and Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain for the PS2. It's unclear if this is an oversight, or if Sony is planning on gradually adding some games to PlayStation Plus Premium over time, in order to entice people to re-sub. This is the same approach used for Nintendo Switch Online's retro games, which has slowly been adding games since launch, as well as adding older consoles to the line-up. Fans won't have to wait long to find out more, as PlayStation Plus Premium is launching in May, but only in select countries in Asia, but Sony should be revealing the full lineup of retro games soon.
