PS5 owners with a PS Plus membership can expect to receive three months of free Grand Theft Auto Online access starting next month. Developer Rockstar Games confirmed the news not long after unveiling current-gen upgrade details for GTA Online. The multiplayer suite's PS5 and Xbox Series X/S boosts most notably include new graphics modes targeting up to 4K visuals, HDR, ray tracing, and performance of up to 60 frames per second. Rockstar's update on the matter earlier in the month also confirmed faster loading times and improved draw distances.

Performance and graphics enhancements only cover the tip of the iceberg, interestingly enough. The studio developed fresh content for GTA Online's new-gen upgrade as well, with an all-new auto shop serving as the main attraction. Located in the multiplayer mode's LS Car Meet, the car shop in question - Hao's Special Works - will unlock access to upgrades for five new rides and five existing ones. What exactly the upgrades will entail presently remains a mystery; however, Rockstar described them as elite performance driving enhancements for GTA Online's fast and furious-minded players. And soon enough, even more PlayStation users will get to test out these boosts themselves.

As recently reported by GameRant, the new-gen update for Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online isn't all PS5 players have to look forward to next month. Starting March 15, all PS Plus members will receive free access to PS5's standalone version of GTA Online, an offer scheduled to last for three months in total. And, as with all PS Plus titles, users must maintain an active subscription in order to take advantage of the freebie long-term - the term, in this case, lasting three months.

Three months of access should prove plenty of time for PS Plus users to experience the thrills of Grand Theft Auto Online. It's worth noting, though, that since the offer only covers the standalone version of GTA Online, PS Plus members who take advantage of the freebie will not simultaneously unlock the ability to play the core GTA V game. The online suite's unceasing popularity suggests it provides more than enough excitement in its own right, though.

To the delight of the internet, GTA V and GTA Online news counted for only part of Rockstar's most recent development updates. The award-winning studio also confirmed that a brand-new Grand Theft Auto entry is currently in production. Of course, the team couldn't share much in the way of specifics, but the long-awaited confirmation eased the concerns of many a franchise faithful.
