The April 2022 PlayStation Plus games have been confirmed by Sony, headlined by SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated. Released in 2020, SpongeBob Rehydrated is a remake of the 2003 original, and was well-received by critics and fans alike at launch.

Subscribers of Sony's PlayStation Plus service have the ability to download a set selection of games each month as part of their fee, and the titles remain in their game library for as long as they stay a PS Plus member. PS Plus' monthly announcements are often a hot topic for Sony gamers, with many feeling the service lacks in comparison to other console subscription services, specifically Xbox Game Pass, something that's set to change with the new PS Plus service expansion. PlayStation Now is more akin to Game Pass, offering a library of games users can stream, while PS Plus is more similar to Games with Gold. The monthly PS Plus offerings are often debated by users, typically due to the age of the games included, or missing features. A notable example includes Godfall. Godfall came to PS Plus without its campaign, offering frustrations for users.

As confirmed by PlayStation on Twitter, April's PS Plus games include a varied mix of genres, with the family-friendly SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated perhaps being the highlight of the batch. Other titles included with the subscription service introduce Hood: Outlaws & Legends (PS4/PS5) and Slay The Spire (PS4). The games will be available to download from Tuesday, April 5.

SpongeBob: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated is a classic platformer that should appeal to PlayStation Plus subscribers who may have played the original, or who have a particular passion for older games with typical platforming style and flair. On the other hand, Hood: Outlaws & Legends offers brutal combat and stealth gameplay across PvPvE multiplayer heists in a medieval world, and should offer a challenge for even seasoned multiplayer fans. Finally, Slay the Spire is a single-player deckbuilder that blends card gameplay with the roguelike genre, offering something for strategists.

While not every PS Plus subscriber is thrilled with the releases, as seen in some of the responses on Twitter, April's offerings are perhaps the most diverse they've been in some months. With single-player challenges and multiplayer options, and games ranging from platformers to deck-builders, it's possible that there's something for everyone with PlayStation Plus this month. PS Plus has offered family-friendly games in the past, and for SpongeBob fans, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated is maybe the highlight of April's PlayStation Plus games.
