Sony has announced that five classic Final Fantasy games are coming to the PlayStation Now subscription service in the coming months, with Final Fantasy VII arriving next week. PS Now is Sony's cloud streaming subscription game service, which even allows PC users to stream PlayStation exclusives to their machines.

Final Fantasy developer Square Enix has a close relationship with Sony, which is why games like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Intergrade are timed PlayStation exclusives. FF7 Remake was even a PlayStation Plus game earlier in 2021, a testament to the companies' rapport. However, Square Enix has also formed a growing accord with Microsoft, leading to a number of its games like Final Fantasy XIII coming to Xbox Game PassIt seems that both console manufactures are out to get as much Final Fantasy content as possible in their subscription libraries, and Sony may soon take the lead.

PlayStation Now is getting a much-needed injection of games, as PlayStation has revealed that five classic Final Fantasy games are coming soon. These will be added to PS Now one per month, and the release dates for each game's arrival were simultaneously revealed. FF7 will join the library September 7, followed by Final Fantasy VIII Remastered on October 5, Final Fantasy IX on November 2, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on December 7, and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age on January 4.

This means that PS Now will have more classic Final Fantasy games than Xbox Game Pass by January. At the time of writing, Xbox Game Pass only has FF8 Remastered, FF10/10-2 HD Remaster, FF12: The Zodiac Age, and FF13, as FF7 recently left Game Pass. Then again, FF13-2 and Lighting Returns have also been promised for Game Pass in the future, so there's a chance Microsoft could again boost its number of on-demand Final Fantasy games.

There is a ton of content present in these Final Fantasy games, and all are strong contenders for being the series' strongest entries. It's a shame that they aren't all being offered at the same time, as that would have been more of an incentive subscribe now rather than wait for a favorite to become available. There are rumors circulating about Sony expanding subscription services like PlayStation Plus and PS Now, but it may need to offer PlayStation exclusives on PS Now at launch if it's to compete with Xbox Game Pass's model. The Final Fantasy games coming to PS Now are all classics, but they're also older games that have been on sale a number of times, which diminishes their appeal as a draw to a subscription service.
