Screen Rant has the exclusive reveal of the beautiful poster and trailer for Proximity, a provocative new science fiction thriller from director Eric Demeusy. Proximity, follows a young NASA scientist who is abducted by aliens and is finds himself on a journey to discover the truth behind what happened to him. Government agencies, mysterious conspiracies, and exciting car chases ensue. The film is produced by Demeusy Pictures and distributed by Shout! Studios.

Director Eric Demeusy is best known for his work as a VFX artist, having worked on films like TRON: Legacy and Pacific Rim, as well as shows including Game of Thrones and Stranger Things. He makes his feature film debut with Proximity (we loved Eric's sci-fi short film 3113), the trailer for which promises a dramatic science fiction mystery with spellbinding visuals and an interesting story. Alien abduction stories are nothing new, but Proximity looks to be tackling the subject with a unique mix of whimsy and tension, evoking classics like E.T. and The X-Files while carving out its own space within the sci-fi genre.

Proximity stars Ryan Masson as Isaac, a young scientist on a hunt for the truth and his greater purpose in a universe that's bigger than he ever thought possible. The film also stars Highdee Kuan, Christian Prentice, Shaw Jones, and Don Scribner. The VFX-heavy thriller has a unique look, with its grounded, realistic style contrasting with the other-worldly CGI effects and impressive production design on display. The white-clad troopers, in particular, are striking to look at. At this level, Demeusy's background in the realm of CGI shines, as the film looks unlike many other movies of its ilk.

Proximity marks the latest release from Shout! Studios, which has made itself known with such releases as Ambition and Standing Up, Falling Down. With Proximity, the studio continues to prove its status as a prime destination for audiences who seek unique, director-driven movies that don't necessarily play by the rules of big-budget studio blockbusters. Speaking of which, virtually all of the big tentpole movies have been taken off the release schedule, and there is currently no timetable as to when movie theaters might reopen. Because of the Coronavirus pandemic, Hollywood has been all but frozen in its tracks, at least as far as the box office is concerned. Proximity was initially scheduled for a limited theatrical release in addition to Digital and VOD, but now it will no longer have a theatrical run.
