There are only three weeks left until Ridley Scott's Prometheus launches here in the States - though people in certain regions of Europe and Russia will be able to see the film a week earlier.

As the countdown to Scott's much buzzed-about Alien spinoff/prequel continues, we can offer a handful of new images - that include conceptual painting depictions of such picturesque visuals as the "star field/star map" from Prometheus, along with the titular spacecraft's arrival on a distant alien world. To top it off, there's yet another cool viral video to watch, plus a bit more insight on the film from co-screenwriter Damon Lindelof.

Here are some excerpts from Lindelof's recent Twitter Q&A for Prometheus:

Q: #Prometheus more of an action film like Aliens or does it have more of the horror aspect in it?A: Hopefully, it’s part action, part horror, part thriller, part mystery and there’s like, some kissing and stuff, too.

Q: What is your favorite line from the movie? #PrometheusA: I refuse to give it away. But it’s something Janek (Idris Elba) says to Vickers (Charlize Theron).

Q: Hi Damon! Was #prometheus written to allow for possible sequels? Do you like the idea of Prometheus becoming a franchise?A: If you like it and want more, there is TOTALLY a design for this story to continue in cool and unexpected ways.

Q: Is there more then 1 android aboard #Prometheus ?A: Well isn’t that a clever question? In fact, some of the crew are asking it, too.

Q: Was Quiet Eye an intentional homage to Lost’s Dharma Initative videos? #PrometheusA: If by “intentional homage” you mean “total ripoff because I rarely have original ideas” then YES!!!

Lindelof's quip about the possibility of there being a secret android character in Prometheus - in addition to "David" (Michael Fassbender) - is worth noting, since the writer/producer does have a fondness for surprises and plot twists. However, that issue has also prompted concern from certain people, who weren't always enthralled with how Lindelof handled unexpected narrative developments, during his time as co-showrunner on Lost.

With Prometheus, though, Lindelof essentially drew up blueprints for an already-established sci-fi mythology - something the film's viral videos constantly allude to, with their references to the futuristic Weyland corporation. As an additional note of comfort: it's been constantly acknowledged that Scott played a pivotal role in helping Lindelof to shape the film's various plot elements and themes.

Beyond his active part in the screenwriting process, Scott's passion for Prometheus has been readily apparent in interviews and behind-the-scenes footage from the film.

When combined with the movie's glorious 3D imagery and self-proclaimed, mind-blowing subject matter, that's provided movie geeks of all shades good reason to be hopeful that Prometheus will mark a return-to-greatness for the legendary filmmaker - seeing how his output over the past decade has included relative highs (Matchstick Men, American Gangster) and lows (Kingdom of Heaven, A Good Year).

Prometheus opens in theaters (2D, 3D and IMAX 3D) around the U.S. on June 8th, 2012.
