While comic book movie titans like The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises are hogging the spotlight, there are several other high-profile Summer 2012 prequels, sequels, and adaptations vying for the moviegoing public's attention on a daily basis. Meanwhile, a smaller production like Riddick (a.k.a. Riddick 3) continues to make headlines - thanks to the efforts of its star, Vin Diesel - even though it's not due out until next year.

Today, we have a combination of new official stills and higher-definition versions of images previously available online, from 2012 titles like Prometheus, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and G.I. Joe: Retaliation - along with yet another set pic from Riddick. You can check them all out above, or scroll down for higher-quality versions (along with additional information about each film).

The Prometheus teaser trailer is just as effective for what it shows, as it is for what it doesn't reveal or clarify about director Ridley Scott's return to the Alien universe. Images with familiar extraterrestrial outfits have since been unveiled, but they offer little insight into how those particular pieces fit into the larger puzzle that is the actual film - and, frankly, the mystery surrounding this project only has only heightened interest.

Prometheus features an all-star, fan-favorite cast that includes Noomi Rapace (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows), Idris Elba (Thor), Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class), and Charlize Theron (Snow White and the Huntsman), among others. Scott will also direct from a script co-written by Damon Lindelof (Star Trek), which only lends this project more credentials as a "sci-fi geek dream team" collaboration.

Look for Prometheus to make its way into U.S. theaters on June 8th, 2012.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

With no official trailer yet, many moviegoers are approaching this faux Abraham Lincoln biography with guarded optimism - while others have already dismissed the film, due to its innately ridiculous premise. Costar Anthony Mackie is promising an innovative blockbuster on par with The Matrix, but there's no way to even begin substantiating that claim until some actual footage is released (*knock on wood*).

With Wanted helmer Timur Bekmambetov directing and Sherlock Holmes co-writer Simon Kinberg contributing to the screenplay, there's no reason to doubt that Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter will boast some great eye candy and historical action set pieces. Whether everything else that makes for a good popcorn flick will be present and accounted for, that's another matter.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter arrives in theaters around the U.S. on June 22nd, 2012.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Hasbro's G.I. Joe sequel is riding a high tide, thanks to its Super Bowl Promo and official trailer promising fans an exhilarating popcorn flick that trades in much of the first film's CGI silliness for more grounded, but still stylized action - be it shoot-out sequences with practical effects or elaborate set pieces featuring ninjas battling one another, while swinging around a cliffside.

As can be noted from the still above, Retaliation is already a step above G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra in terms of casting, with Dwayne Johnson taking over "protagonist" duties from Channing Tatum - while people such as Bruce Willis, Ray Stevenson, Walton Goggins, and Ray Park fill out important supporting parts. Hopefully, this flick will also mark an improvement on starlet Adrianne Palicki's last project (ie. the failed Wonder Woman TV pilot).

G.I. Joe: Retaliation hits U.S. theaters on June 29th, 2012.

The long-gestating followup to 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick (titled simply Riddick) is in the midst of production, with leading man Vin Diesel continually dropping new set images, to help keep fans' appetites whetted. A recently-unveiled plot synopsis has also helped keep the film in the public's eye, even though an official marketing campaign won't begin for a while now.

See Diesel back in Riddick form in the latest... er, Riddick set image below:

Diesel's peers in Riddick include fan-favorites Karl Urban (Star Trek) and Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), along with decent supporting talent in the form(s) of Jordi Mollà (Colombiana), Bokeem Woodbine (Devil), and Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), among others. Riddick fans should be pleased with this new installment - and who knows, the film could also manage to win over non-converts, if done right.

Expect Riddick to snag a theatrical release date for 2013, possibly in the summer.
