At this point, we're really just waiting to find out: is Prometheus for certain going to be a revival of the disturbing sci-fi horror featured in Alien, as envisioned by Sir Ridley Scott, that early promos have sold it as being - not to mention a return to form for the filmmaker following a mixed reception for his last couple of pictures (Robin Hood, Body of Lies)? Or could this flick ultimately prove to be one of this biggest disappointments in 2012?
Going solely off the viral video campaign and trailer footage for Prometheus, it's easy to assume that there's no way this film won't be a mind-blowing viewing experience. Still, as undeniably fantastic as Scott's film looks in terms of visual craftsmanship, we won't know for certain whether or not this picture succeeds as a feast for the eyes and for the mind, until it actually arrives in theaters.
Obviously, the above featurette isn't going to provide any answers to those questions - especially since it's largely a fluff piece, featuring the star-studded cast (Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, etc.) all talking about what an awesome director Scott is. However, that behind-the-scenes clip does call attention to the matter of how Prometheus seems destined to become a film that moviegoers either love - or walk away from, shaking their heads in disappointment that the final product did not live up to expectations.
Bear in mind, all this is not meant to play down anticipation for Prometheus and suggest it doesn't really look all that good (far from it). We've mostly just reached a point where raving on and on about the film becomes an increasingly redundant activity; now that we're also on the verge of the Summer 2012 movie season getting officially underway, the desire to just see this film (and judge it for ourselves) becomes all the harder to resist.
Prometheus arrives in theaters (2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D) around the U.S. on June 8th, 2012. In the meantime, we will continue to keep you up-to-date on the movie's marketing campaign - and cling tight to those hopes that our strong anticipation for this film won't ultimately prove to have been in vain.
