Project Runway alum Chris March has died due to complications from a previous accident. Though he did not win first place, the designer "made it work" and turned his dreams of designing into a reality, designing for some of the biggest names in the business.
The designer’s death comes two years after his near-fatal accident back in June of 2017 as reported by TMZ. March had fallen in his apartment and hit his head in which he laid unconscious for four days. When he awoke, he called 911 and was rushed to the hospital where he was placed in a medically induced coma because he was suffering organ failure, which included a collapsed lung. He remained in the medically induced coma for almost two months. When he was brought out of the coma, he was told he was paralyzed in his two legs as well as his arm and right hand.
After his accident, March started a GoFundMe page due to the setbacks that he acquired after the accident. On the page, he said he needed help paying his medical bills down, but also used the site to keep his fans updated on his recovery. The famous designer was forced to live in a nursing home which made him severely depressed; he also was immobile due to the two leg braces. In an interview, he said he had to deal with homophobia, lack of personnel in rehab, and also lower funding.
With the loss of such a great talent, the fashion world’s flag will fly at half-mast, remembering the gift that was and the art he contributed to the world. The timeless designs that have graced the red-carpets on some of the most A-list stars, will live on forever. His legacy lies in the fabric creations in which he contributed to the world. For the Project Runway designer that is the best way to be remembered, full of life, laughing loudly, and bringing joy to others. The fashion industry has lost a truly talented designer and artist, he will be missed by many. Chris March was 56.
