MOB Games' latest release, Project: Playtime, is a free-to-play asymmetrical horror title based in the world of Poppy Playtime, and its three distinct monsters each offer unique ability kits that suit a range of playstyles. Players can choose from three of the franchise's iconic characters as they are tasked with stopping the six survivors, or "Resource Extraction Specialists," from building the giant toy and escaping the area. To aid them in their mission, each of these beasts has a dangerous set of abilities that fit their personalities and lore.

Unlike most other games of the same genre, Project: Playtime doesn't actually feature separate queues for the monster and survivor roles just yet. This is likely something that MOB Games will implement in future updates, or once development moves past the early access stage. Unfortunately though, even if players are able to navigate Project: Playtime's restrictive release day bugs, they aren't necessarily guaranteed any games as the killer currently. Thus, in order to survive their many matches as the prey, and to make the most out of the times when they're the predator, instead, it's crucial for every player to know each monster's strengths and weaknesses.

Mommy Long Legs Is A Calculated Killer In Project: Playtime

A living version of the elastic children's toy, Mommy Long Legs is just as dangerous in Project: Playtime as she was in Chapter 2 of Poppy Playtime. An agile and strategic character, her kit includes utility-based skills that can help find and pin down survivors effectively. Using her X-ray vision, Mommy can briefly see through walls, highlighting the locations of all living players. She can also shoot spider webs, which can slow down pesky survivors significantly. Last but not least, "Stretchy Limbs" allow her to frequently grapple across the map or attach to surfaces.

Although at face value, Mommy Long Legs is scarier than Huggy Wuggy, she greatly benefits from a slower, stealthier playstyle. She excels when lurking in the shadows, planning an ambush on her next unknowing victim. By using Stretchy Limbs, she can hang from the ceiling, locate enemies with her X-ray vision, and then simply wait for the right moment to pounce. Even if something doesn't go according to plan, she can use spider webs - or even grapple onto survivors - to hinder them and secure the kill. Because of this, she dominates in locations with lots of verticalities, such as the main area on the Toy Factory map.

Project: Playtime's Boxy Boo Is An Unpredictable Assassin

The newest addition to the world of Poppy Playtime, Boxy Boo is arguably the strongest monster in Project: Playtime. Just as Boxy Boo's controversial character design implies, he is a fast-paced, high-octane character that thrives on surprising his enemies. He reserves the ability to hide in his jack-in-a-box form at will, blending into the surrounding environment and jumping out at any passing survivors. Apart from this stealth-based skill, though, the rest of Boxy Boo's kit provides him with unmatched movement capabilities. Not only can he use his claw to grapple around like Mommy Long Legs, but he can also wind himself up, allowing him to spring across a significant distance.

Boxy Boo's high-risk, high-reward design has made him one of the most popular, and most menacing, monsters in Project: Playtime so far. In contrast to Mommy Long Legs, he doesn't have any real utility-based skills, and so if players aren't consistent in their movement abilities, they may struggle to make the most out of this character. However, provided they can successfully use his kit against survivors, Boxy Boo's murderous lore in Poppy Playtime's universe can become a reality in their own gameplay. Especially if they stick to open areas, where he can maximize the distance of his jump, players could very well be unstoppable as Boxy Boo in Project: Playtime.

Huggy Wuggy Is A Situational Beast In Project: Playtime

Huggy Wuggy was the first to be introduced in Poppy Playtime, and he's also the first monster that players encounter in Project: Playtime's tutorials. Thus, it isn't too surprising that he's less complex than Mommy Long Legs and Boxy Boo. With only two abilities (as opposed to Mommy and Boxy's three), he struggles in many cases, but he can still be menacing in the right hands. The highest-damage ability in the game, "Big Hug," allows Huggy to charge toward a survivor and kill them in one swift motion. He can also place up to five Mini Huggy toys across the map, which will alert him if someone approaches.

It can be difficult to effectively play Huggy Wuggy in Project: Playtime since he lacks any proper movement abilities. His charged attack does give him a speed boost, but since it's his main way of striking down survivors, players might be inclined to save it for guaranteed kills. This causes Huggy's kit to be heavily situational - but he can counteract this by setting himself up for success. If players continuously place Mini Huggys in key areas, like extraction pits and puzzle towers, they can easily take advantage of potential opportunities. They can also preemptively position themselves in areas without low ceilings in order to make the most of "Big Hug."

Between Mommy Long Legs, Boxy Boo, and Huggy Wuggy, Project: Playtime has brought these iconic monsters to life in a more interactive way than ever before. Especially for those who have experienced the chase sequences and jump scares in the much scarier Poppy Playtime chapters, Project: Playtime can provide a breath of fresh air by finally allowing them (at least on occasion) to be the predator and not the prey. Whether they're creeping about with Mommy, springing after survivors with Boxy Boo, or finding just the right moments as Huggy, everyone - regardless of their playstyle - can likely find their groove with one of three uniquely dangerous monsters in Project: Playtime.
