Warning: This post contains MAJOR spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The Scarlet Witch's powers were on full display in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and the way she killed Professor X was especially brutal. Wanda Maximoff dreamwalked into her alternate self from Earth-838 to find her kids and eliminate anyone who would stand in her way. In this case, she makes a beeline straight for the Illuminati members as soon as she finds herself in a new universe. She pulls Reed Richards into ribbons, making his head explode with a pop. She defeats Black Bolt by closing his mouth, which causes his brain and skull to cave in from the force of his own voice. She kills Captain Carter by slicing her in half using her own shield. She also throws the equivalent of an entire building on top of Captain Marvel.

When the Scarlet Witch is confronted by Professor X, he's most likely to beat her because although she possesses great magical powers, none are controllable without her mind. Professor X can puppeteer people himself without dreamwalking. When he goes into the Scarlet Witch's mind to try to stop her, he finds Wanda Maximoff buried under rubble behind a closed door. She calls out to him for help, and he desperately tries to save her in order to end the Scarlet Witch’s villainous rampage. However, as he is in her mind, she can control what happens there. This is apparent when the Scarlet Witch emerges from a cloud of red smoke, approaches Professor X from behind, and kills him in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it way.

At first glance, and probably in theaters, the way the scene plays out makes it seem like Scarlet Witch snapped Professor X's neck, but that's not where her destruction ends. When this scene is paused and tracked through in slow motion (as seen in a Reddit post), it is apparent that she actually rips off his head in this quick, easy-to-miss moment. Scarlet Witch grabs him by the forehead and by the mouth, and then twists, tearing his face in half, making his death far more violent than initially thought.

Professor X's Death Proves Just How Brutal Scarlet Witch Is

Wanda Maximoff Trapped in Multiverse of Madness

The way the Scarlet Witch kills Professor X offers insight into her character and headspace during Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Just before his death, Professor X is only trying to help Wanda any way he can, and the Scarlet Witch takes advantage of this, showing just how cold she can be. She appears with a malformed face, razor-sharp teeth, and long fingernails making her look more like a classic evil witch than ever before. This is the shot where the audience knows that Wanda is too far gone, this time fully consumed by her own evil.

A much-beloved character, Professor X has already died multiple times before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He was killed off in the Bryan Singer X-Men Universe and again in Logan. However, the way the Scarlet Witch kills him is perhaps one of the most violent and animalistic deaths seen in the MCU, even considering how each of the 838 Illuminati members are disposed of. It's apparent that, when provoked, the Scarlet Witch can be Marvel's most twisted, brutal villain.
