This Week in TV:

Sarah Wayne Callies wants to return to Prison Break; Mary Elizabeth Winstead to star in BrainDead; Grimm season 5 gets a new teaser; Firefox co-creator writes Silicon Valley spec script; The Knick season 2 gets a new trailer; NFL Kickoff sees solid ratings; and The Vampire Diaries gets a new trailer.

Sarah Wayne Callies, the actress who played Dr. Sara Tancredi on Prison Break, has expressed interest in returning for the series' upcoming revival.

Sarah Wayne Callies Prison Break

During an interview with Forbes, Callies confirmed that there have been informal talks about her character's possible return in FOX's Prison Break revival.

"I've been approached. The talks are happening. I don't know where they're gonna go. You know, for me, it's gotta begin and end with the material... I don't want to do something that feels like a reunion because it would be cool to get the band back together. I want to do something because there's more story to tell."

Callies was quick to point out that the talks were informal and that her agents aren't currently involved in negotiations.

The actress famously portrayed Lori Grimes in The Walking Dead, making her arguably one of the most famous Prison Break alums. Convincing her to return would be a big gain for the revival, but the way the series ended (with her character believing Wentworth Miller's Michael to be dead) would allow the network to easily move forward without her.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead will star in BrainDead, the newest series from The Good Wife creators Robert and Michelle King.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead Scott Pilgrim

The series is a comedy/thriller that centers around an alien invasion in Washington D.C. Winstead will play Laurel, the daughter of a family famous for their legacy on Capitol Hill. She leaves the political landscape behind to become a documentary filmmaker, but is drawn back in when her brother needs help with an unknown problem. It's then that she realizes the government isn't ineffective due to any incompetence, but because aliens have eaten their brains.

The Kings explained the casting decision in the following statement:

"We've been fans of Mary going back to 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,' but it was really her extraordinary work in 'Smashed' and 'Alex of Venice' that had us imagining Laurel's lines coming out of her mouth. She's fantastic at mixing comedy and drama, and keeping it all vulnerable, yet real. We can't wait to see what she does with Laurel."

BrainDead earned a straight-to-series order from CBS and is slated to premiere in summer of 2016.

A new teaser for the fifth season of Grimm has been released. (Spoilers for Season 4)

This first bit of footage from the upcoming season shows that the fallout from the shocking season 4 finale will be the catalyst for the plot moving forward. After the death of his girlfriend Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch),  Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) is out for blood, willing to blur the lines between friend and foe in his quest for revenge.

Showrunner David Greenwalt has a bit of a reputation for killing off major characters in the series he works on, notably the death of Angel in the second season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. However that character later went on to star in his own series, so there's no telling what Nick might discover about the "death" of his girlfriend and its lasting effects in the season.

Firefox co-creator Blake Ross has written a spec script for season 3 of the Emmy-nominated series Silicon Valley.

Silicon Valley season 2 finale Jared and Dinesh

Ross has no experience writing for television, but faced with a long wait for the return of Silicon Valley, he decided to take matters into his own hands. He debuted his spec script on his Facebook page, saying the following:

"I couldn't wait 8 more months for season 3 of 'Silicon Valley' to start, so I spent the past 48 hours writing my own episode. It picks up where season 2 left off. This is my first television script ever, which means it's probably the roughest draft I've ever shared. I plan to do this a thousand more times until I figure out the medium.

Fans of the series would do well to check out the script, as it captures the essence of the characters and features some genuinely funny moments not out of place for the series. Read the full script here. Ross has since indicated that if people are interested, he may try to write a full season before the third season premieres in April.

Silicon Valley season 3 is expected to premiere in April of 2016.

Cinemax has released a new trailer for the upcoming season of The Knick.

Thackery is the chief surgeon at the hospital, struggling to revolutionize medical practices and earn the respect of his peers, while also battling with his drug addiction. His colleague is Dr. Algernon Edwards (André Holland), a genius who faces discrimination as the only black doctor in an all-white hospital.

The trailer for season 2 promises creeping tension and follow through on the dramatic conclusion to the first season. Steven Soderbergh is back as director and the well-crafted trailer confirms that this season will feature the beautiful cinematography that season 1 is already famous for.

The Knick Season 2 premieres on October 16th, 2015.

The NFL regular season opener earned solid ratings on Thursday night, seeing the New England Patriots beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-21.

NFL Kickoff Steelers Patriots

While it's no surprise that the NFL drew plenty of viewers to their kickoff game, it was a little surprising just how many people tuned in. Despite the "Deflategate" controversy surrounding the reigning Super Bowl champs, the game drew 23.85 million viewers, up 7 percent from last year. The game saw ratings matching the 2010 opener between the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings, the highest-rated game since the Thursday night opening tradition began in 2002.

As if "Deflategate" and "Spygate" weren't enough, the Patriots have already been accused of cheating during the season opener. Members of the Steelers coaching staff reported experiencing interference on their headsets. While the staff didn't outright accuse the Patriots of malicious intent, they did note that it seems to happen every time they play in Boston. Patriots' coach Bill Belichick reported that his staff was affected by the interference as well.

NFL Week One continues on Sunday, September 13th.

The CW has released a trailer for the upcoming season of The Vampire Diaries.

Season 6 of the series ended with a flash forward, showing a devastated Mystic Falls. Season 7 will be charting the course to that devastation, introducing a number of new heretics  (witch/vampire hybrids) to the series that may be even more evil than the late Kai Parker (Chris Wood). In the trailer, Caroline (Candice King) refers to them as "supernatural terrorists."

The promo features plenty of action and explosions, as well as a little romance, which is to be expected from the series at this point. Fans can also expect mounting tension between Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and his mother, as their relationship continues to evolve in unexpected ways.

The Vampire Diaries returns to The CW on Thursday, October 8th, 2015.
