It's been a decade of film reboots on the big screen, and on TV it's been officially a year of revivals. It started with The X-Files and Fuller House; soon it'll be Gilmore Girls and Twin Peaks. Yet in between all of those, the continuation of FOX's hit crime-drama Prison Break is scheduled to return in spring 2017. Dominic Purcell, Wentworth Miller, Sarah Wayne Callies and more will be back in the nine-episode limited series where they'll orchestrate their biggest escape ever.
The first trailer for the miniseries was released back in May and teased Michael Scofield's (Miller) return from the dead, as his brother Lincoln and ex-wife Sara discover years later that he’s being held in a Middle Eastern prison. Recent storyboards from the premiere also teased there are bad guys who don't want Michael to get out, so it'll take Lincoln and all of his friends everything they have to make it happen.
Now new footage straight out of San Diego Comic-Con reveals even more about the limited event. While Lincoln works from the outside to get Michael out, we learn his brother is in dire straights behind bars. Yet Michael always has a plan, as he tells his jail mate, and this time around it all starts with a stick of gum: "Just like the butterfly's wings, this piece of gum is going to start a sequence of events that will finish on the other side of the world." We can't wait to see how it turns out.
Some fans might be worried that the revival will take the series too far into the realm of impossibility, but Prison Break has always relied on gimmicks and deception to get from point A to point B. It's a little bit MacGyver with a dash of A-Team thrown in for good measure. It's this combination of ingenuity, high stakes and teamwork that has made the series popular. It seems it's these same traits that will follow the show into its new season, even as it goes halfway around the world.
It's what happens next that fans will tune in to find out. How does Michael alert his brother, how did he survive the finale and how will they get him out are just some of the questions currently on everyone's minds. Not to mention, it'll be interesting to see Michael reunite with his brother, Sara and the child he doesn't know. There's a lot to be excited about as Prison Break returns for another season, and fans should be glad they get to see the characters in action once again.
Prison Break will air on Thursdays @9pm starting sometime in the spring of 2017 on FOX.
