Amid their recent decision to part ways with the Royal family, close sources say Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were "shocked" to learn the Youth Ambassador titles would also be revoked. It appears the Duke and Duchess had to drop their roles within the Commonwealth as part of their Megxit agreement with Queen Elizabeth.
The current royal crisis comes after Prince Harry and his wife, Duchess Meghan Markle decided to step down as senior royal members and move to Canada. The news of their renouncement left a shockwave of emotion throughout the world and especially within the Royal family. Harry's grandmother Queen Elizabeth, his brother Prince William, and his father Prince Charles were all reportedly upset by the news of Harry abandoning his role within the monarchy but the family has still been supportive of his decision. Prince Harry's decision came after Duchess Meghan had a difficult time adjusting to life under the microscope of the British media and decided it would be best to distance themselves from their Royal duties, become financially stable, and split their time between North America and the UK.
Now, according to TMZ, Prince Harry and Meghan weren't expecting one part of their agreement with the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were reportedly "shocked" when they learned they had to forgo their roles as youth ambassadors to the Commonwealth. They didn't expect to lose their ambassadorships as part of their negotiations. The couple has already agreed to stop using their Royal titles but they were disappointed with the loss of their ambassador roles.
The Commonwealth is a group of 53 nations, all former British territories, including Canada. Within the Commonwealth, Harry and Meghan were tasked with empowering young people in those countries to tackle the problems facing their generations. The couple really enjoyed their ambassador roles and still have it included on their website. Meghan joined Harry as a youth ambassador right before their 2018 royal wedding and even had the flowers of all 53 Commonwealth nations embroidered into her wedding dress.
While The Royal Family goes through this transitional phase, Markle has reportedly felt the brunt of criticism aimed at the Royals and most recently sued the paparazzi for taking photos of her and baby Archie. The Duchess continues to get blamed for the rift in the Royal Family between her husband and Prince William, as well as the main reason Prince Harry has agreed to step aside from his duties. Currently, Prince Harry is waging war against numerous media outlets back in the UK. In October of 2019, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the prince had decided to take legal action in regard to an illegal interception of his voicemail messages. The couple is also fighting against a tabloid for an invasion of privacy.
The prince has said multiple times that he fears history will repeat itself and he will lose someone close to him due to the paparazzi stalking their every move. He urged the media to start treating him and his wife as if they are real people and to stop treating them as if they are a business commodity. This must be why the Duke and Duchess have decided to part ways with the Royals and move to Canada.
