Here's how Prey's New Game+ mode changes up the gameplay - for better and worse. The Prey franchise may not be as famous as the likes of Half-Life but it has a solid fanbase. The franchise has had a troubled history, with the original Prey being released in 2006 after a decade spent in development. The title went through a lot of changes during that period, but it received good reviews for its unique, challenging gameplay.

The game was enough of a success for Prey 2 to receive a greenlight, which followed a new story and main character. Prey 2 would have seen players taking control of a bounty hunter on an alien world, and a seriously impressive 2011 trailer got fans very excited for the sequel. Sadly, the game was eventually canceled by Bethesda, and a reboot with no real connection to the first title was put in development. Thankfully, the new Prey proved to be a fantastic title in its own right, blending action, horror, and RPG elements for one of the best games of 2017. That said, some reviewers criticized the combat and overall difficulty of the game.

Prey 2017 follows Morgan Yu as he finds himself trapped on space station Talos 1, and has to battle a race of aliens dubbed the Typhon. The game takes a lot of inspiration from titles like Bioshock but adds new elements of its own. Another strength of Prey was its replayability, which rewarded exploration and trying out new tactics on subsequent playthroughs. Over a year after Prey's release, a free update was added in the form of New Game+, which allowed players to carry over all their neuromods, gear and other upgraded abilities from a past playthrough.

Once Prey's intro is finished, players can head to Yu's office on the space station and collect Morgan's gear. This also equips the player with the Psychoscope much earlier, which can be used to scan enemies and make life on Talos 1 a little easier. This has the effect of making Prey's New Game+ mode much easier and while this removes some of the tension, it's undeniably fun to turn the tables on the Typhon. Players can also upgrade abilities they previously neglected due to a lack of resources and experiment with new ways to play the game.

Prey's New Game+ is essentially easy mode, but for those who want to replay or explore areas they might have missed the first time, it's an entertaining way to revisit the title.
