The director of the highly-anticipated Predator prequel, Prey, reveals the surprising inspiration behind the movie's intense soundtrack. Hulu's summer blockbuster from 20th Century Studios releases this Friday, centering on Comanche warrior Naru as she seeks to protect her tribe against a highly advanced alien hunter. Prey takes place in 1719, some 300 years before the Arnold Schwarzenegger-led cult classic from 1987, and takes the franchise back to its roots as a grounded sci-fi action film. To accomplish the desired tone, Prey's director hired a majority Native American cast and filmed in the forests of Calgary.
Dan Trachtenberg reveals that while in Calgary, he discovered the eventual source for another of Prey's most essential components: the soundtrack. During the film's preproduction, Trachtenberg was playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla and was astounded by the game's gorgeous music. When he questioned who created the game's soundtrack, it led him to Sarah Schachner, who became Prey's composer. Check out the post below:

While the inspiration is a bit spontaneous, it is not unreasonable considering AC Valhalla's beautiful design elements. Schachner has primarily composed music for the hit Ubisoft franchise dating back to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag but has also worked on The Lazarus Effect, Iron Man 3, and Now You See Me. Her sweeping accompaniments should fit within Trachtenberg's blockbuster's raw and gritty atmosphere extremely well if Valhalla is any indication. The director suggests that fans will listen to Schachner more in the future, which could ring true if the prequel performs well. In the meantime, Prey fans can listen to the film's official soundtrack the same day it premieres on Hulu.
