Warning: Spoilers For Prey Below! The fur trappers of Prey speak all of their dialogue in French during the movie, but what exactly are they saying? Prey has returned the Predator series to glory, focusing on a Predator landing on Earth to hunt humans in the year 1719. While Comanche warrior Naru (Amber Midthunder) steps up to stop the Predator, other humans also have the alien in their sights.

During her battle with the Predator, Naru runs into a group of French fur trappers who have also picked up on the Predator’s activities. The fur trappers believe the Predator will make the ultimate trophy and are determined to take it down. However, their methods also end up making them the human villains of Prey.

While the dialogue of the fur trappers is not translated by the movie itself, Prey’s streaming platform Hulu provides French subtitles to spell out what they’re saying. While Prey leaves other questions unanswered, translating what the trappers are saying reveals just how ruthless they truly are. Here is everything the fur trappers say in Prey.

The Fur Trappers Capture Naru & Taabe

Big Beard in Prey image

When the fur trappers find Naru in a bear trap, one exclaims, “Look here,” with the leader “Big Beard” (Mike Paterson) saying, “A woman.” One asks, “What is she doing here?” while Big Beard says, “I will wear it.” After another of the trappers states, “It will slow us down,” Big Beard replies, “No. By the way she was running, I think she saw it”, before knocking Naru out with his rifle.

As Naru awakens in a cage in the trapper’s camp, the trappers are heard speaking among themselves, with one saying, “It’s your new blonde, huh?” while Big Beard shouts, “Get that f---ing dog off me!” in reference to Sarii, the Comanche hunting dog of Naru.

The trapper's interpreter, Raphael (Bennett Taylor), tells one of the group, “I don’t have a good feeling about it,” while another tells Naru, “You’re angry? Now you will pay” after she pushes back on Big Beard’s taunting her with a spear, and further states “We’ll see what she knows,” and also asks Naru “What are you doing here, huh? It’s a trap”. Big Beard then orders Raphael, “Speak, filthy Raphael!” with Raphael asking, seemingly to himself, “What is happening?” before speaking to Naru. Big Beard exclaims, “I’m going to kill her” before another trapper replies, “No, we can always use it.” Big Beard then shouts, “I will make her sing,” with another saying, “Get out the savage! Get him out of the damn box!”, with the group then showing Naru her brother Taabe (Dakota Beavers). Prey's monstrous human antagonist Big Beard then menacingly threatens, “One way or another, you’re going to help us,” with another saying “Do it, bleed!” before Big Beard runs his knife across Taabe’s chest.

The Fur Trappers Use Naru & Taabe As Bait

As the trappers wait for the Predator to come to kill Naru and Taabe after they’ve been tied to a tree as bait, one looks on and says, “Where is this whore beast? I’m hungry, and I need to pee” as one of his fellow trappers is slain behind him. This causes several horses to flee, with a trapper asking, “What is happening?”. The one next to him follows up with “Oh, no, no, no, what is happening?” after seeing the dead bodies of two other trappers, while yet another shouts “Shoot Rambert!” as his fellow trapper draws his musket. The trapper then utters “S--t” when the Predator, as a vastly superior hunter, walks up to kill them both.

As one of the trappers flees, he shouts, “He’s there!” to the others right before the Predator kills him with a giant arrow. After the Predator steps into a bear trap, one of the hiding trappers cries “Now!” while another says, “We have it!” after the Predator is caught under a net, only for him to be fatally stabbed, while another trapper is killed by the Predator after calling it “Bastard!” As the battle unfolds, Big Beard gives the order “Pull!” referring to the trapper’s rifles. When one of them objects, saying, “We will hit the others,” Big Beard simply re-iterates the command. After Naru and Taabe escape, a few of the surviving trappers find a bomb left by the Predator on the ground, counting down to detonation. Realizing what it is, one of them warns the others, “Move aside! Step aside!” only for all of them to be killed when it goes off.

Naru Traps Big Beard

Naru battles the Predator

When Big Beard awakens after the confrontation with the Predator, he finds his right leg has been severed with rats chewing on it; Big Beard swats them away while shouting, “No, no, no, stop! Whore!” Realizing he’s been trapped by Naru, Big Beard calls her a “Savage fool!” and says, “You don’t even know the mistake you just made!” also threatening, “I will put a bullet in your skull!” and “You are going to die, b---h!”. This time, Naru has made Big Beard into bait, and the Predator slaughters Big Beard after seeing him wielding a rifle placed by Naru, with Big Beard calling the Predator “Devil!” just before being killed. In the ending of Prey, Naru triumphs over the Predator and finally becomes a hunter. Yet even with their dialogue untranslated, the fur trappers are the clear villains of the movie. Still, a translation of their dialogues really shows their true villainy in Prey and only adds to Naru's victory over them.
