Screen Rant is thrilled to present an exclusive clip from Prey for the Devil, the latest horror film being released by Lionsgate. Arriving in theaters on October 28, the film follows Sister Ann (Jacqueline Byers), who has risen to the occasion and become the first female exorcist. Due to a global rise in demonic possessions, the Catholic Church once more opens its doors to exorcist priests, and one professor (played by Arrow's Colin Salmon) agrees to train Ann against tradition. But nothing is as it seems when it comes to the path Ann has chosen, and her battle for a young girl's soul puts her face to face with a demon she knows all too well.

Directed by Daniel Stamm, who has directed a number of horror-tinged television episodes from Them, Fear the Walking Dead, and Scream: The Series, Prey for the Devil focuses on a heroine who has no questions about faith in the face of evil. Given her own personal history with demonic possession, she is well aware of the dangers victims face and is well-equipped to serve as the first female exorcist. That is until she realizes just who is possessing her current charge and begins to question whether or not she's playing right into the Devil's hand.

Screen Rant's exclusive clip from Prey for the Devil showcases Jacqueline Byers' Ann already being faced with demonic forces demanding entrance. When her patient goes from harmless to hateful in a flash, the hospital itself responds by playing her mother's "pretty voice" over the loudspeaker, reminding Ann of the damage demons have wreaked on her actual life. But scaring her and scarring her are not enough, the Devil wants to be let in and gain possession of Ann herself.

More About Prey for the Devil

prey for the devil possession

Prey for the Devil brings with it a talented ensemble cast playing priests and patients alike. Aside from Byers and Salmon, the film also stars Christian Navarro, Lisa Palfrey, Nicholas Ralph, with Ben Cross, and Candyman's Virginia Madsen. While exorcism stories are common enough, they rarely if ever have a woman at the center—certainly not as the person performing the exorcism. This twist on the classic setup allows screenwriter Earl Richey Jones (working off a story by Robert Zappia and Todd R. Jones) to introduce a fresh new perspective to the horror genre.

The possession-themed horror film is another in an exciting line of Lionsgate releases, which include several thrillers and similar horror fare. This year, Lionsgate also released the survival drama Fall, and they will soon be introducing the noir thriller The Minute You Wake Up Dead to theaters and digital platforms. For those who wish for more comfort food in their film experience, Kevin Smith's long-awaited comedy Clerks III will be now available to own in December. Prey for the Devil has a runtime of 93 minutes and is rated PG-13 for violent and disturbing content, terror, thematic elements, and brief language.
