Warning: Spoilers Ahead For PreyDespite Prey being set centuries before the events of the other sequels, there's one legacy character who needs to make a comeback for Prey 2. In contrast to its nearest rival the Alien franchise, the Predator series is almost like an anthology. The Alien films - and even by extension, the crossover Alien Vs Predator duology - have featured continuing storylines and characters like Ripley or Michael Fassbender's David 8. The Predator movie franchise has hit the reset switch every time, focusing on new characters and settings, though featuring occasional callbacks.

The Predator from 2018 was a big-budget attempt to revitalize the series and set up further sequels. Sadly, despite featuring a great cast and director in Shane Black, the sequel was a critical and financial dud. The latest outing took the series back to the very core of the original movie and was set in 1719. The story focused on the battle between Comanche warrior Naru (Amber Midthunder) and a so-called "Feral Predator" who comes to Earth seeking worthy trophies.

Despite the simple setup, Prey succeeded in being both a thrilling action film and winning viewers back to the Predator saga. Prey did feature some easter eggs to past outings but wisely avoided laying any elaborate plans for more entries. Prey's success seemingly makes a sequel a foregone conclusion, with the film's post-credit sequence setting up the arrival of more Predator ships. One major callback the prequel featured is the pistol Naru uses against the Feral Predator, which is the same flintlock gifted to Danny Glover's police officer Harrigan in Predator 2, which was set in 1997. For Prey 2 to truly pay off this reference, Predator 2's Elder Greyback should also return.

Prey 2 Has To Pay Off Its Pistol Easter Egg

Predator 2's finale sees Harrigan chase the City Hunter down to its hidden spaceship, and after he slays the creature, many more Predator variants emerge. Instead of killing him, the leader Greyback tosses Harrigan the aforementioned gun as a trophy, telling him "Take it." In the original screenplay, Greyback - also known as the Elder Predator - himself was the one who finished off the wounded City Hunter by beheading him after he lost to Harrigan. Greyback is depicted as older than the rest of the clan, with his other trophies including dog tags and a cutlass sword.

Prey 2 could depict Greyback's first time on Earth, where he takes part in the hunt for Naru after she killed the Feral Predator. It's unlikely audiences will want to see Greyback kill Naru, however, so the sequel - assuming it happens, of course - will have to conceive of another way for the Elder Predator to receive the flintlock pistol. Given Naru's growing skill as a warrior, maybe the clan will invite her to join at the end of the story, giving a potential third entry a chance to explore other worlds the creatures hunt on. If Prey 2 does happen, the ultimate fate of Naru's gun will need to be addressed somehow, so the appearance of Greyback only makes sense.
