After season 1's surprising finale, star Carson Rowland gives an update on Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 2. Original Sin is the fourth series in the Pretty Little Liars franchise, which is based on the book series written by Sarah Shepard. The drama series was created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, and premiered on HBO Max on July 28. Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin stars an ensemble cast that includes Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles, Maia Reficco, and Rowland.

While Original Sin shares continuity with the original Pretty Little Liars, the spinoff series mainly follows a new group of teenage girls who are being terrorized by the mysterious "A" due to a tragic event from their mothers' pasts. During the 10-episode season 1, the girls raced to unveil "A" while uncovering secrets from their own lives. In the Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 1 finale, the identity of "A" is revealed, but after Imogen seemingly defeats the killer, "A" escapes, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. The surprising finale left Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin open for a follow-up season, but whether HBO will renew the series still remains a mystery.

Naturally, with the Original Sin season 1 finale ending on a cliffhanger, the question of more episodes is on fans' minds. In a recent episode of The Art of Kindness podcast, Rowland revealed that even the cast doesn't know if there will be a Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin season 2. Check out Rowland's response to whether the series has been renewed or not:

“I don’t know, I don’t know. I have not heard anything to be honest. That is up to HBO!”

By many accounts, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin was a satisfying addition to the popular YA franchise. Not only did the series receive generally positive reviews from critics, but it also had much potential for crossovers with other Pretty Little Liars characters. In that respect, renewing Original Sin for season 2 seems like the obvious next step. Between the idea of expanding the universe and picking up from that massive cliffhanger, there are still plenty of places for the series to go. It is then particularly interesting that Rowland hasn't heard any word about a new season either.

While Rowland's response seems like bad news for the Pretty Little Liars spinoff, it doesn't necessarily mean that the series won't receive a renewal at a later date. However, with HBO Max's current uncertainty regarding original programming, the show's future is definitely up in the air. Hopefully, more updates about Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin will emerge soon.
