Pretty Little Liars, which was on from 2010 to 2017, was a TV show about a group of friends who started to receive messages from someone called A. The mystery, the drama, the relationships, and the characters helped make this series a true hit!
One of the main characters was Hanna Marin, who was played by actress Ashley Benson, and this list is all about her. From her relationship with food and shoplifting to her relationship with Caleb and style, let’s look back at her major plot points, in order to rank her five best and her five worst storylines!
Best: Being Used As Bait
It was common for this show to end in cliffhangers, especially when it came to season finales, and Season 6 was especially wild. Hanna, being bold and fed up, decided to put herself up as bait, in order to try and finally see who Uber A was and end the game. While preparing for all of this, her and Caleb even looked back on what could have been for them - How sweet/sad!
The episode ended with Hanna getting captured, and she was shown being dragged up to the church bell tower, with a bouquet in her hands.
Worst: Wilden
There were so many characters that the girls and fans could not stand, and way up there on the list would be Darren Wilden. He was a detective. He became involved with Ashley Marin. He was Beach Hottie and had a thing with Alison. And he was run over by Ashley at one point, as well, yet he popped up again to start investigating the girls further, as he always did. Hanna's reaction in this photo says it all.
Best: Lucas
Back in the day, Ali made fun of Lucas, but Hanna, sweet Hanna, gave him a chance and became good friends with him. Sure, he joined the A team at one point, but he totally redeemed himself.
In the time jump, for instance, he gave Hanna an alibi, an awesome place to stay and the chance to have a property in Rosewood, which she could turn into her own fashion brand. There may have been some low points, but he was a great part of her life.
Worst: Kate
Kate could have been straight out of Cinderella, as she was Hanna’s not-so-great stepsister. There were two things she did that really stood out and earned her a spot on this list: She got Hanna drunk at their parents’ rehearsal dinner (which ended with throwing up and an angry father). And she sent out a photo of herself, pretending like this NSFW image was sent out by Hanna (which almost got Hanna into some real trouble at school and home).
Best: Mona
Oh, Mona… She may be the most complex character of all on PLL. When it comes to Hanna, though, she was a true friend. Did she play the A game in an intense way and for a long time, doing activities such as hitting Hanna with a car? Well, yeah… But look at all the good she did, too!
From shopping together to decoding messages that eventually led to the girls beating the game, Mona was very handy to have around, TBH.
Worst: Her Downward Spiral
These girls did not have an easy time in life, but Season 5 was particularly hard for Hanna; it was sort of understandable, but it was quite sad. She started to have an identity crisis. She started to steal again. She began drinking quite a bit. She seemed to not care about her looks (and even chopped off some locks and put in some black streaks). She was worried about how she would pay for college. She was fighting with loved ones. And then she got arrested and ended up in the Dollhouse. Poor girl, and poor girls!
Best: Redecorating Her Room
After the Dollhouse, these main characters were also struggling, with traumas related to being locked away and tortured. They all handled it in different ways, and it may sound weird to list this on the “best” side of storylines… Yet hear us out: When Hanna returned home, she just wanted everything back to normal. She wanted her friend group to work together, and she did not want anything that would remind her of the Dollhouse. Therefore, her literally ripping the wallpaper off, in hopes of being able to actually enjoy her home, was heartbreaking and real and powerful.
Worst: Shoplifting
Aria, Spencer, Emily and Hanna all had dirty little secrets; that’s how A was able to hang so much over their heads! From hooking up with off-limits people and getting addicted to pills to lying about dropping out of college and overeating, they were not perfect. That being said, Hanna’s shoplifting certainly goes on the worst list. Yes, it added interest and gave her some great new pieces in her closet… But she is better than that!
Best: Caleb
And, of course, the best moments in Hanna’s life and story were centered around Caleb. He was the bad boy in town, and his special skills proved to be beyond helpful in the A game. He truly cared for Hanna and would do anything to support and protect her. They had chemistry and a carefree bond. There were steamy scenes and a devastating breakup. In the end, though, these two were meant to be, as they tied the knot and made a baby.
Worst: Jordan
On the other hand, there was Jordan… After the girls graduated from high school and actually moved away, they had college and careers and new cuties in life. Jordan was rich and handsome and had an accent, and they did make a very gorgeous couple. As soon as Hanna was back in Rosewood, though, she knew that this was not her destiny; her friends did not know anything about him, she distracted herself with anything but wedding planning, and then, of course, she was back around her one true love. Team Haleb all the way!
