The high school friend group on Pretty Little Liars seems to have it all. Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario) seems headed for the Ivy League, Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson) will be a famous fashion designer, Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell) is a swimming star, and Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) is cool and creative. Sure, they have to deal with their friend Alison DiLaurentis (Sascha Pieterse) who has gone missing, but besides that, they each have love, friendship, and family in their lives.

Each season finale was always crazy and fun, and the drama on the show is propelled by the main characters as well as some minor ones. While some of these Rosewood residents were given too much time onscreen, others didn't really do much for the story.

No Impact: Mike Montgomery

Mike talking on Pretty Little Liars

Aria's close with her family and so her brother Mike (Cody Allen Christian) should play a much larger role on the show than he actually does.

Unfortunately, Mike always seems confused by what's going on, and he doesn't seem as intelligent as his sister. It's also strange when Mike and Mona Vanderwaal (Janel Parrish) date, as it's obvious that she's pretty evil and that he's in over his head. Mike doesn't offer up new theories on the mysteries in Rosewood and he doesn't offer his sister much support, either, as he's too immature to handle it.

Too Much Influence: Yvonne Phillips

If PLL fans were asked if Toby Cavanaugh (Keegan Allen) needed a new love interest for season six of the show, everyone would have said no. Toby and Spencer have always seemed like they were soulmates and even if they were apart for a while, it seemed clear they would come back together.

Toby marries Yvonne (Kara Royster) and then she dies, and while that's a huge tragedy, it's fair to say that this character has too influence on the show. She never seems right for Toby and her days on the show always seem numbered.

No Impact: Pam Fields

Emily's mom Pam (Nia Peeples) is super sweet, which is why it's too bad that she doesn't have much of an impact on the show.

Emily made some horrible mistakes and she and her mom go through a tough period, but ultimately, Pam supports and loves her daughter. While she's a pleasant character to watch, it's too bad that she doesn't have a really distinct, obvious personality beyond being a doting mother.

Too Much Influence: Lucas Gottesman

Lucas on Pretty Little Liars

Hanna and Lucas never become a PLL couple because she sees him as a pal, but Lucas (Brendan Robinson) is definitely in love with Hanna.

Lucas doesn't do much on the show except pine after Hanna, prove that he's great at looking things up online, and feel bad about how Ali treated him. It's not very fun to watch him as he's a pretty miserable character. It's fair to say that Lucas is given too much screen time.

No Impact: Nicole Gordon

Nicole talking to Emily on Pretty Little Liars

Even though Nicole's (Rebecca Breeds) time on PLL should be thrilling and dramatic, as she and Ezra are in a serious relationship before she goes missing, it's not really that fun to watch.

Like the other couples on the series, it's obvious that Aria and Ezra are going to end up together in the finale, so watching Ezra grieve Nicole doesn't have much impact. Aria also doesn't want Nicole to be found since she loves Ezra, and that's a little awkward to watch, as no one should wish ill on another person. It doesn't seem like PLL spends much time dwelling on Nicole, so she's not a very powerful or important character.

Too Much Influence: Jenna Marshall

Jenna wearing black shades after being blinded in Pretty Little Liars

When it comes to how likable the PLL characters are, Jenna (Tammin Sursok) isn't very high on that list. Even though no one deserves to be blinded during a prank (referred to as "The Jenna Thing" on the show), Jenna isn't a good person.

There are enough people on the show who want others to pay for their mistakes, and it's not much fun watching Jenna. She's too bitter and upset about what happened to her, and since there are enough villains on the show, she's not necessary.

No Impact: Samara Cook

Samara and Emily smiling at each other on Pretty Little Liars

Emily and Samara (Claire Holt) date briefly, but many Pretty Little Liars fans prefer Paige McCullers (Lindsey Shaw) and Ali as Emily's major love interests, so this one definitely feels lackluster.

Samara isn't on the show long enough to make much of an impression on fans. She doesn't have much of a personality, unlike both Paige and Ali, who make more of an effort to get to know Emily properly.

Too Much Influence: Noel Kahn

Like some of the other characters on PLL, it's hard to tell if Noel (Brant Daugherty) is good or bad until viewers see that he was helping hurt the liars while they were in the dollhouse.

While Noel turns out to be a truly bad guy, he's not a very compelling enemy. There are more interesting characters who have been helping "A" or "A" themselves, from Mona to Sydney Driscoll (Chloe Bridges). "A" did so many terrible things to the girls that Noel's character pales in comparison. Noel also doesn't feel like a legitimate love interest for Aria as she's meant to be with Ezra Fitz (Ian Harding).

No Impact: Maggie Cutler

Maggie looking serious on Pretty Little Liars

It should be a crazy discovery that Ezra has a son, but Maggie (Larisa Oleynik) only pretends that he's the father of her baby. In the fourth season, Ezra learns that Malcolm isn't actually his child, so why was this a storyline in the first place?

Ezra becomes a much worse character over time and this is just one example of a boring and silly storyline. Some fans might not even remember Maggie at all.

Too Much Influence: Jason DiLaurentis

jason dilaurentis on pretty little liars

Ali's brother Jason (Drew Van Acker) isn't a very interesting character and yet he randomly pops up from time to time. While the show wants to make him super mysterious, it sometimes falls flat. Fans definitely would have enjoyed seeing more scenes with Jason and Ali together.

While Jason matters because he's Spencer's half-brother, and that's a shocking discovery, he doesn't deserve all the attention that he gets on the show.
