When Pretty Little Liars ended in June 2017 after seven seasons, there was a huge amount of anticipation about how the stories would get wrapped up. Fans had invested so much time in these characters and the mystery, and there was a lot riding on the two-part series finale.

Although fans were pretty happy with the direction that the show went in, not everyone got the ending that they should have. Here are five characters who got fitting endings on Pretty Little Liars, along with five others who definitely deserved more.

Fitting Ending: Aria

Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) and Ezra Fitz (Ian Harding) get married, which is definitely something that fans wanted to witness. It also seems like their writing career is going quite well as there's going to be a movie adaptation of their book.

Marriage and career: check and check. Aria is having some infertility issues, which was painful for fans to learn, but Ezra is devoted to her and it's clear that they can work things out and always be there for one another. It's hard to imagine a better ending for Aria.

Deserved More: Emily

Although it seems like Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell) has a happy ending since she and Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) are finally together and also raising Ali's twins, fans learn some sad news in the PLL spin-off The Perfectionists; it turns out that these two aren't doing so well and they might even break up.

Emily definitely deserved more. She's a smart, ambitious girl who needed to have a happy personal and professional life by the time the show ended, and that isn't what happened.

Fitting Ending: Hanna

Hanna Marin looking thoughtful on Pretty Little Liars

Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson) and Caleb Rivers (Tyler Blackburn) are married and expecting a baby in the PLL series finale. Could fans have wanted anything more for Hanna? Definitely not.

Hanna and Caleb have always been an endgame couple, and it wouldn't have been right for these two not to have a happily ever after. The added bonus of Hanna's pregnancy is even better since it really feels like she's ready to take on such a grown-up challenge.

Deserved More: Alison

Ali is another PLL character who deserved more because by the time she moves away to start a new job in The Perfectionists, she's floundering in both her career (since her new position comes with some dark secrets and a huge mystery) and her love life.

She needed a much happier ending after suffering so much. Ali pretended to be dead, she ran away, and she was toyed with by a lot of evil people. Why didn't she get a more fitting conclusion?

Fitting Ending: Caleb

Caleb had a tough road in high school like a lot of people. He didn't think that anyone was going to love him or care about him and he was more of a loner than anything else.

Now, after the Pretty Little Liars series finale, Caleb is married to his soulmate and the love of his life — and they're going to be parents. It seems like he can finally put his past behind him and have a happy future.

Deserved More: Toby

Sure, fans learned that Toby Cavanaugh (Keegan Allen) was back in Rosewood, and it seemed as though he and Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisariowould most likely get back together. That was all good news and something that viewers were hoping for.

But it felt like something was missing. Toby had a very dramatic storyline after marrying Yvonne and then watching her tragically die, and his character fell flat in the series finale. He definitely deserved more, and it would have been nice to watch him propose to Spencer, if not marry her, and maybe start his own business or have something more interesting going on.

Fitting Ending: Melissa

Melissa (Torrey DeVitto) and Spencer have never been the kind of sisters who braid each other's hair and chat about their crushes. But the two characters have a really cute scene in the series finale proving that they have made up, and it seems like their relationship is going to be a lot better from now on.

That's really nice to see, and after everything that Melissa has been through, from the turmoil in her love life to moving away from Rosewood, it seems like she'll have a more stable family life from now on.

Deserved More: The Moms

The girls' mothers have also been through a lot on the show, wondering what their daughters were up to, suffering in their own love lives, and dealing with all of the dark drama that comes with living in Rosewood.

It would have been nice for viewers to see the moms ending up somewhere super happy, but the finale didn't really touch on what they were up to.

Fitting Ending: Spencer

Since fans wanted Toby and Spencer to be together since their very first kiss, which was all kinds of romantic, it was great to see them finding their way back to one another in the PLL series finale.

It's true that they didn't wind up married or engaged, but showrunner I. Marlene King has said in interviews that these two characters are definitely together again. That's a major relief for fans.

Deserved More: Mona

Janel Parish as Mona on Pretty Little Liars

Mona Vanderwaal (Janel Parrish) may have seemed evil at times and okay at others, but she still needed a better ending than the one that she got.

Fans saw Mona in France, and it seemed like she was toying with someone new. Why couldn't she have just had a regular life like the other liars?
