Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Avengers #63In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Avengers, the final fate of the prehistoric Ghost Rider is revealed, proving that Earth-616 wouldn't have survived without him. With Mephisto and the Multiversal Masters of Evil unleashing their final endgame on every reality and version of the Avengers, past and present iterations of Earth-616's Mightiest Heroes have joined forces for an epic last stand. However, the very first Ghost Rider proves just how powerful he is with a significant sacrifice.

While present and past Avengers come together to fight the Masters of Evil, Mephisto and his Council of Red launch an assault on Avenger Prime's fortress and the army of heroes he recruited from across multiple realities. However, Avengers #63 from Jason Aaron and Javier Garrón focuses on the "The Battle of One Million BC", an all-out brawl between the heroes of both ages and the Masters. However, Doom Supreme ends up unleashing a devastating plague that would have killed humanity in its infancy if not for the first Ghost Rider and the intimidating mastodon he rides into battle.

Marvel's First Ghost Rider Saves The Entire World With An Epic Sacrifice

First Ghost Rider Saves The Marvel Universe

Having been assembled by Earth's first host to the Phoenix Force, this prehistoric roster of Avengers features the first Ghost Rider, Iron Fist, Black Panther, Starbrand, Moon Knight, Sorcerer Supreme Agamotto, as well as the All-Father Odin who first wielded Mjolnir. However, heroes such as the first Black Panther and Starbrand have been lost along the way. Now, the first Ghost Rider joins the fallen after epically sacrificing himself to save humanity from Doom's dark power, destroying himself to literally burn out the plague before it can consume the world.

It should also be noted that the prehistoric Ghost Rider isn't the only Spirit of Vengeance who's become a key player. In the present and greater multiverse, Robbie Reyes has become the All-Rider, a cosmically unique Ghost Rider with the power to traverse all realities driving anything he wishes. As such, he's been Avenger Prime's key recruiter as they've been building a massive army of Avengers to combat Mephisto's Council of Red (as seen in Avengers Forever).

As the Avengers Assemble event continues, it will be interesting to see if any other ancient Avengers will give their lives to ensure the future of mankind whom they've sworn to protect. With only a few left, here's hoping the modern-day Avengers can protect their ancestors lest they damage the very fabric of time and Earth-616 itself. While humanity would have fallen to its knees had the prehistoric Ghost Rider not sacrificed himself, one has to wonder what consequence his death could have on the future inheritors of his power (if any). Avengers #63 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
