Chris Hemsworth will play Thor again after Thor: Love and Thunder, and here are some Marvel movies he could appear in. As one of the original members of the Avengers, it appeared Thor's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was coming to a close just a few years ago. Neither of his solo films was a huge hit and Hemsworth was starting to become bored with the character. But, the god of thunder has been transformed into one of the MCU's best characters with a bright future over his recent appearances.

The rebirth of Thor began with Thor: Ragnarok, where writer/director Taika Waititi flipped the overly-serious tone of the character and leaned completely into Hemsworth's comedic talents. This was also where Thor's power levels increased substantially. When he then was put in the hands of the Russo brothers for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, they balanced the humor with Thor's history of loss. In doing so, he got a compelling arc and was the only original Avenger to receive direct set up for more adventures.

Thor will return next in Thor: Love and Thunder, making him the first MCU character to lead four solo films. Even though Thor 4 will also see Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) transform into Mighty Thor, Odinson is still going to be the lead. If Hemsworth has his way, it won't be the last time he plays Thor either. He's confirmed that he will play Thor again after Thor: Love and Thunder but didn't reveal when and where this will happen. As a result, there is nothing left to do but speculate about what Thor's future could hold, and here are some MCU movies that could bring Hemsworth back.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Avengers Infinity War Thor Guardians Galaxy

Prior to the announcement of Thor: Love and Thunder, the ending of Avengers: Endgame pointed to Thor having a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so it could still happen. Even though the sequel doesn't even have a release date at this point, it is important to remember the original plan for the film. James Gunn's conclusion to the trilogy was supposed to launch Phase 4. Gunn wrote the movie with full knowledge of Endgame's ending (as he was an executive producer on it) and could've planned to have Thor play a role.

Thor's first appearance since boarding the Benatar with the Guardians might come in Thor: Love and Thunder, but Gunn has confirmed that he isn't changing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's script. So, if Gunn wrote the movie's script to include Thor in some capacity, then he should still appear. As for what role Thor could play, that is a bit more difficult to figure out, but any chance to see him and Star-Lord's rivalry continue would be welcomed by most.

Avengers 5

Another possibility for Hemsworth's MCU return could be Avengers 5. Outside of his solo movies and post-credits scenes, the Avengers franchise is the only other one that Thor has appeared in. While most of his co-stars had roles in other MCU franchises, Hemsworth has only stuck to solo films or the big team-ups. This has also meant that he's flipped back and forth between a solo movie and a new Avengers film throughout his MCU run. If this pattern is going to continue, then Avengers 5 would be a natural place for him to land after Thor: Love and Thunder.

The possibility of Thor returning in Avengers 5 is an intriguing option, as he will likely be the only member of the original team to make an appearance. Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow are no longer around, Hulk is weakened from reversing Thanos' snap, and Hawkeye will pass his title to Kate Bishop in Phase 4. Thor could now return in Avengers 5 and be the leader of the team, taking what he's learned from his years of combat to try and make the Avengers better than ever before.

Thor 5

While the assumption is that Hemsworth's next appearance as Thor will come in another MCU property, there's still a chance that it could come with a fifth solo film. Thor 5 would be an unprecedented move for Marvel Studios, but so too was Thor: Love and Thunder. The difference here is that a fifth Thor film could allow Hemsworth and Taika Waititi to complete their Thor trilogy. When Waititi was doing press for Thor: Ragnarok, he told Screen Rant that he'd want to make Thor: Ragnarok 2, not Thor 4. If he and Marvel envision Ragnarok as a soft reboot and start of a new trilogy, then Thor 5 is where Waititi and Hemsworth could bring the character's story to a close.

Captain Marvel 2

Thor could also potentially be a good fit in Captain Marvel 2. He only recently met Carol Danvers, but she quickly made an impression on him. The Brie Larson sequel is officially in development and many expect it to adapt Secret Invasion in some capacity. If a Skrull or Kree invasion is facing humanity and Earth, Carol might need all the help she can get. She's one of the MCU's most powerful characters but so is Thor. And who knows, there's even the chance that a Skrull could pose as the God of Thunder too.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Another fun opportunity for Hemsworth to return as Thor could come with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He and Strange have already helped each other and the film will even reportedly be tied to the Loki Disney+ series, so Thor could appear in some capacity. The sequel also has the ability to have a version of Thor from the multiverse appear. Since Hemsworth's enthusiasm to continue playing the god of thunder has come from all the fun he's had with it recently, the chance to play an alternate version of Thor could be exactly what Hemsworth wants to do next.

Eternals 2

One other franchise that could include Thor is Eternals 2. The first film hasn't even come out yet, so it might be a bit too early to speculate about what the sequel could hold. However, Marvel Studios surely hopes that Eternals becomes a new franchise for them and it would lend itself well to utilize Hemsworth's talents. The first movie will span 7,000 years, which even predates the Asgardian, because Thor isn't quite that old. If the sequel similarly explores multiple points in the MCU timeline, Hemsworth could be brought back to play "young" Thor. There's also the chance that he could have a role in the present day, especially if Eternals 2 goes more cosmic.

Thor's MCU future is still a mystery at this point, but there is clearly a path for him to continue playing a role. Since Hemsworth wants to come back after Thor: Love and Thunder too, it would be quite surprising if Marvel Studios didn't take advantage of his renewed interest and the character's all-time high popularity.
