The Predator Stars Hint at Trailer Dropping Tomorrow

The Predator

The Predator actors Jake Busey, Jacob Tremblay and Sterling K. Brown have all dropped hints on Twitter indicating the movie's first trailer will release tomorrow, May 10. Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1987 action film Predator first introduced audiences to the now-famous dreadlocked alien hunter who stalks his human prey using infra-red vision while hidden by a cloaking device. Somehow, Schwarzenegger was able to defeat the movie's seemingly invincible alien threat, but of course there were more where he came from.

Predator 2 followed in 1990, but turned out so bad it basically killed the franchise. The Predator would not return to movie screens until 2004 in an adaptation of the video game Alien vs. Predator, a showdown between the two most iconic extra-terrestrial bad guys of the '80s. A full-on reboot was attempted in 2010's Predators, but Adrien Brody was no Schwarzenegger. Now, writer-director Shane Black has taken over the property for his film The Predator, which once again sees an alien threat landing on earth with nothing but a small group of soldiers to stop him.

With The Predator set to release later in 2018, fans have eagerly awaited the film's first trailer. CinemaCon attendees got to see footage last month but still the general public remains unsatisfied. Now, that first trailer release at last seems imminent. The Predator actors Jake Busey, Sterling K. Brown and Jacob Tremblay all took to social media to tease what very well could be the trailer drop fans have been waiting for. See their tweets below:

According to a recently released synopsis, The Predator takes place in a suburban setting and involves genetically upgraded Predators. In the new film, a young boy accidentally brings the aliens to earth and now a group of ex-soldiers and a "disgruntled" science teacher must battle the threat. Recently, the film underwent extensive reshoots that reportedly changed much of the film's third act.

The synopsis seems to promise what in some ways is a traditional Predator film not much different than the Schwarzenegger original. An alien threat arrives, a small group of people encounters and opposes it, that group finds itself in extreme danger as they square off against a baddie who combines imposing physical traits with advanced weaponry, camouflage and vision technology. But Black no doubt has some twists in store, beyond the "DNA upgrade" angle with the Predator. While it could be seen as concerning that the movie's third act had to receive extensive reworking, the fact of reshoots alone doesn't mean the movie is destined to be terrible. That said, the legacy of the first Predator looms large even three decades later, and fans will have big expectations for Black's take on the universe.
