Spoilers for Predator #2 by Marvel Comics

Marvel's Predators are breaking one of the franchise's biggest rules, as the Yautja's are hunting Theta in cold weather, which goes against their usual nature. In Predator #2, Theta finds a Predator on a freezing, snow-filled planet, immediately questioning how that's even possible. The bizarre sighting is the latest example of how Predators are adapting to kill the human who is hunting them.

In the Predator franchise, the Yautja have hunted in almost exclusively warm conditions, as the series established that they come out during the hottest times of the year. Even in the first Predator film, Anna notes that the Predators only hunt during the hottest conditions, and in extended media, it has been suggested that the Yautja are cold-blooded and need warmth to operate at their maximum capacity. In Predator #2, as Theta has nightmares about the Predators while crashing-landed on a snowy planet, she discovers she's not alone, as a Predator has somehow adapted to the cold weather, breaking one of the franchise's biggest rules, which she notes "makes no sense."

In Predator #2 by Ed Brisson, Kev Walker, Frank D'Armata, VC's Clayton Cowles, and Leinil Francis Yu from Marvel Comics, Theta fights for survival after crash-landing on a snowy, cold planet. However, when she discovers a ship and a trail of death that a Predator's left behind, she soon realizes that the Yautjas have adapted like never before. Theta tells her A.I. companion the killings don't fit the Predator's usual patterns, as the planet is "too cold." However, after seeing footage of a Predator using her axe, Theta realizes that the deadly aliens are breaking their own rules to try to take her out.

The Predators Are Breaking Their Own Rules To Kill Theta

Predator Hunting Marvel Comics

The new Predator comic book from Marvel Comics has seemingly been intentionally written to do something new with the franchise while breaking some of its biggest rules in the process. As a result, the story is incredibly tense, as Theta hunts the Predators who killed her family, while the Yautja's motives seem shockingly personal for a species that's all about big-game hunting.

The Predators hunting in the cold might break one of the franchise's biggest rules, but it's ultimately necessary to tell a new story in a universe that has had similar stories rehashed countless times. How the Yautja have adapted to the cold weather and whether Theta can take them out remains to be seen, but if the story has proven anything thus far, it's that readers should expect the unexpected with what happens next. Predator #2 by Marvel Comics is in stores now.
