Preacher is returning to AMC for its fourth and final season in just a couple of weeks, and the first full-length trailer for Preacher season 4 has been revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon and developed for TV by Sam Catlin, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen, Preacher stars Dominic Cooper as a former small-town preacher who becomes the vessel for a terrifyingly destructive force called Genesis.
When things left off in Preacher season 3, Jesse Custer's vampire pal Cassidy (Joe Gilgun) had been captured by the Grail, and Jesse and Tulip (Ruth Negga) were on their way to save him. Herr Starr (Pip Torrens) had given up on try to coerce Jesse into being the messiah, and decided he preferred playing checkers to chess. God (Mark Harelik) is not a fan of Jesse's mission to find him, and tried to cut a deal with Tulip to get her to call Jesse off - but she turned him down. Oh, and the Saint of Killers (Graham NcTavish) killed Satan and left Hell with Eugene in tow (Ian Colletti), leaving Hitler (Noah Taylor) to get comfortable in Satan's old office.
With this being Preacher's final season, naturally the main theme is the end of the world. Jesse is on a mission to try and stop the apocalypse, but he has some formidable opponents. Check out the SDCC trailer for Preacher season 4 below:
Disturbingly, both God and Hitler (in his role as the new ruler of Hell) seem to be working with Herr Starr and the Grail, and it looks like poor Cassidy is spending his time with the Grail being tortured. On the bright side, at least Hitler is helping the holy child Humperdoo to continue developing his dancing skills. Speaking during the SDCC panel, Preacher EP Seth Rogen said that they pushed the madness as far as they could in the show's final season:
"We pushed it crazier and crazier and crazier...there's a shot of God creating dinosaurs… When my partner Evan sent a note to the VFX crew asking if we could add a butthole to one of the dinosaurs, I knew the show had gone off the rails. And to their credit, they added it."
A couple of clips from the upcoming season of Preacher were also shown during the panel. In the first clip, Jesse beats up a room full of guys while Cassidy, who is still tied up, looks on. In the second scene, the Saint and Eugene stop by a diner for some food. Once a key antagonist dedicated to hunting down and killling Jesse (no matter how many people got killed in the crossfire), the Saint may end up being an ally in Preacher's final season. Fortunately, we don't have much longer to wait before the ride begins again.
Preacher season 4 premieres Sunday 4th August on AMC.
