A new promo for Monday night's Preacher showcases the Saint of Killers, played by Graham McTavish, undeterred in hunting Jesse Custer, played by Dominic Cooper, and his friends - Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) and Tulip (Ruth Nega). As the three continue on their road trip to know God's whereabouts, the amigos are met with new dangers with the Cowboy on their tail.

Following the mini-apocalypse that left their small town flattened out and all its inhabitants dead in Preacher season 1, Jesse, Cassidy, and Tulip embark on a mission to locate the AWOL God. In the debut episode of season 2, the group tracked down one of the preacher's friends, named Mike, to seek for his help. Unfortunately, he did not have any significant information that could help the three road-trippers in their quest. In an unusual turn of events, they eventually got new intel on God's whereabouts, prompting them to immediately get back on track - not knowing that Saint was already hot on their heels. By the end of the premiere, Jesse found himself face-to-face with the Saint with the latter aiming a gun at him.

The recently released promo [seen above] for the upcoming episode titled "Mumbai Sky Tower," provides the continuation of the cliffhanger from Sunday's season primer. In the teaser, the Saint goes ahead, despite Jesse's command to stop, and fires his gun only for a delivery truck to coincidentally pass by. Instead of the bullet reaching Jesse, it hits the truck driver causing the transport to pivot and hit Saint. Jesse eventually checks the crash and as he walks away from it - presumably thinking that Saint is already dead, the cowboy emerges with a more determined look on his face.

It's difficult to predict what will happen next given the circumstance. But if the brief synopsis of the new episode is any indication, Jesse, together with Cassidy and Tulip, will be able to escape the wrath of the cowboy - at least at the moment. As they move forward a track a new lead from Heaven, they would also have to get into the bottom of Saint's mystery and why he is so hell-bent on killing them.

Preacher season 2 is said to going to stay true to its comic book source material. Thus far, the show has been able to strike a balance between showcasing gore and violent scenes with the dark humor that the narrative comes it. The notion that the three amigos are on road adventure seeking God while the Cowboy follows them makes for a more intense and dynamic narrative than the protagonists just on a hunt for something. In hindsight, Jesse, Cassidy and Tulip are both the hunters and the hunted in this situation.

It will be interesting to see how the show will continue to push its boundaries. Given that it is being broadcasted by AMC - the same cable network that airs The Walking Dead and its spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead, it is safe to say that we can expect that Preacher will continue to test the limits of TV storytelling with compelling narratives and creative ways to tell them.

Preacher continues Monday, June 26 with ‘Mumbai Sky Tower’ @10pm on AMC.
