Preacher showrunner Sam Catlin has teased the official arrival of the AMC series' newest villain Herr Starr, after the creepy character was briefly glimpsed in an earlier episode. As played by Pip Torrens, Herr Starr is a menacing bald Teutonic man with one milky-white eye, and he is definitely up to no good.

In the comics, Herr Starr is the leader of a secret organization called the Grail, which will become a major factor in the story of Jesse Custer. Episode 3 of Preacher the TV series introduced Herr Starr for just a second but didn't give any details about his organization or what they are after. The episode also introduced one of Starr's henchmen, the mysterious Featherstone (Julie Ann Emery), whom Jesse (Dominic Cooper) met while she was singing in a jazz bar only to later discover that she was definitely not who she seemed to be.

Speaking to EW, Preacher showrunner Sam Catlin promised that in the episode set to air on July 31st audiences will get their first full taste of Herr Starr and what he's all about. Catlin gave a brief breakdown of Starr's organization The Grail and what their purpose is in the show's incredibly bizarre and villain-filled universe:

“If there’s a pie in heaven or earth, they have their hands in it. Governments take their call and tremble at their summons. They’re sort of like the ambassadors, or criminal attorneys, for heaven and hell here on earth. They just basically in a lot of ways run the planet. Herr Starr is sort of the enforcer for this organization.”

Comic fans have been anticipating Starr's arrival ever since it was announced, and they'll have to wait just a little bit longer to get a real taste of Pip Torrens' performance as the villain. Instead of getting back to Herr Starr, Featherstone and the mysterious white-suited men in the white vans, this week's episode will deal with the fallout from last week's revelation of Tulip being married to Viktor, and will also see the return of the Saint of Killers who last week was glimpsed marching grimly up toward New Orleans.

In addition to the coming Herr Starr storyline, the Saint of Killers situation and the whole mess with Viktor, Preacher has also visited Hell where Eugene has been introduced to, of all people, Adolf Hitler. We were promised that Preacher season 2 would be bigger than season 1 and so far the show has delivered, especially in terms of adversaries for our heroes to face off against. Considering his stature in the comics and the way the character is being slowly set up, Herr Starr likely will end up being the true Big Bad when all is said and done.
