The Saint of Killers makes his return in the first promo for next week's episode of Preacher. Despite the show's first season getting some decidedly mixed reactions from die-hard fans of the source material too, AMC's Preacher has been on a non-stop roll of critical success throughout its second season over these past few weeks. After making its premiere just a few weeks ago, Preacher has managed to find the correct momentum and admittedly unique tonal balance that was often lacking from its ambitious but erratic first season. This has been in huge part thanks to the show's creative decision to finally take its lead trio - Jesse (Dominic Cooper), Tulip (Ruth Negga), and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) - on the road, away from Jesse's Texan hometown.
Much of the current season's first few episodes followed Jesse and co. as they went on the run across the country away from the Saint of Killers (Graham McTavish), a Terminator-like Angel of Death, tasked by Heaven with killing Jesse. And while the season's more recent episodes haven't quite given fans as much screentime featuring the Saint of Killers as they may have liked, the show's next episode promises to be bringing that trend to a quick and exciting end.
Following the premiere of last night's episode, "Viktor," AMC has officially released the first official promo for next week's episode. Titled "Dallas," the episode will feature the long-awaited arrival of the Saint of Killers in New Orleans, which will just bring even more problems for Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy, in addition to the already distressing conflicts that have arisen for the characters as of late. You can check out the "Dallas" promo for yourself in the space above.
The Saint's return could not be coming at a much worse time for Jesse and Tulip, following the reveal in last night's episode that Tulip didn't only have a relationship with the villainous Viktor, but was actually his runaway wife. The show won't be wasting any time in addressing that shocking revelation, with a large majority of next week's episode supposedly dedicated to flashbacks following Jesse and Tulip in the early stages of their relationship. And what new light that may or may not shed on the duo's dynamic should just add yet another extra layer to an already exciting sophomore season.
However, it'll be interesting to see just how well "Dallas" does at balancing those two main story points. Not only will it have to continue the conflict between Jesse and Tulip in some kind of satisfying fashion, but it'll also have to dedicate enough time to the Saint's return. So how exactly Preacher manages to bring together two of this season's biggest story points will likely be the deciding factor of "Dallas'" success, which could either continue this season's success or bring it to a grinding halt.
Preacher continues next Monday with ‘Dallas’ @9pm on AMC.
