The first set photos from The CW's live-action Powerpuff Girls reboot show reveal the main cast members in the characters' classic costumes. It's been more than 15 years since new episodes of The Powerpuff Girls aired on Cartoon Network. The original animated series launched a popular multi-media franchise centered around Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup - three young superpowered friends. In the latest expansion of the Powerpuff Girls franchise, The CW is rebooting the property as a live-action series.

The CW's Powerpuff Girls series comes from Juno writer Diablo Cody, Sleepy Hollow's Heather Regnier, and Arrowverse producer Greg Berlanti. It has been in development since August 2020 but recently took a major step forward. The main cast members are confirmed, with Chloe Bennet playing Blossom, Dove Cameron playing Bubbles, and Yana Perrault playing Buttercup. Less than a month after their involvement with Powerpuff Girls became official, the first look at the trio has arrived thanks to the first set photo.

TMZ shared the first photo and video from the set of The CW's live-action Powerpuff Girls reboot. It shows all three stars in the character's recognizable and brightly colored suits. Blossom is sporting her typical pink look, Bubbles is featured in blue, and Buttercup still has her green dress. The set video then shows Blossom flying while Bubbles and Buttercup run behind her.

These first looks at Powerpuff Girls come on the first day of filming. The CW has so far only announced a pilot order for the series, meaning the show has yet to be picked up for a full season. The reboot will reimagine the Powerpuff Girls as "disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime fighting" and resurface to save the world again. Donald Faison is playing Professor Utonium - the scientist who gives the Powerpuff Girls their powers - and can be seen in the background of the set video.

So far, Powerpuff Girls' live-action costumes remain largely faithful to how the characters have appeared in animation. While some might gripe about the simplicity of the designs, there is a possibility that the costumes will evolve as the story progresses. Dresses are not the most practical attire for three twentysomething superheroes, so some upgrades might be in store. If that is the case, then Powerpuff Girls will at least be able to reference the characters' traditional costumes to keep hardcore fans pleased. Then again, we can't count out these costumes sticking around for the bulk of the show either, so only time will tell whether or not these are the final costumes for the live-action reboot.
