The Phantom Ranger's name derives from his ability to cloak himself - turning invisible like a phantom - and was given to him by the Power Rangers in TurboThe show runners initially didn't plan to give him an origin, and later series never filled the gap - not even after he made a secondary appearance in Power Rangers in Space, the show's sixth season from 1998. Now, answers may finally be arriving.

BOOM! Studios announced its first Power Rangers comic in 2015, beginning with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Several other series have been published, including spin-offs, a prequel series, and a crossover event. The first main series concluded last year, in 2020, with two other series taking its place: Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers. Now, one of the biggest series in the comic line's history is coming, and it is one that could change the Power Rangers universe as fans know it. Fans can discover the origins of the Phantom Ranger when Power Rangers Universe #1 releases in December 2021.
