The Power Rangers: Shattered Grid trailer teased an epic comic book event. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers made its TV debut back in 1993 and soon became a beloved action series. The show followed five teenagers recruited by Zordon to become Power Rangers and battle the forces of evil sorceress Rita Repulsa. The show pulled its intense fight sequences from a Japanese series called Super Sentai, and it went on to spawn further TV shows, comics, and video games.

The franchise even hit the big-screen with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie in 1995, where the title characters face off with villain Ivan Ooze (Paul Freeman, Hot Fuzz). Fans flocked to it despite negative reviews but 1997 sequel Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie underperformed. The franchise was given a high-profile reboot with 2017's Power Rangers, which featured Bryan Cranston as Zordon and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa. The film only did modest business so planned sequels were scrapped, and another movie reboot is currently being developed.

Outside of movies the Power Rangers franchise is still going strong on both television and comics. In 2018, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series, an epic comic crossover event called Power Rangers: Shattered Grid arrived. The story centered on Lord Drakkon, who is an evil, alternate universe version of Green Ranger Tommy Oliver. Whereas in the original timeline he broke free of Rita's dark power, the Lord Drakkon version of Tommy stayed evil, killing other rangers and even Rita herself before setting out to conquer other universes.

A special live-action promotional trailer for Power Rangers: Shattered Grid also arrived in 2018, with Tommy Oliver star Jason David Frank reprising the role to play Lord Drakkon. It's a short but effective tease, as Drakkon looks back over memories - comprised of clips from various Power Rangers shows and movies - and teases the epic battle to come. Kyle Higgins - who wrote for the Power Rangers: Shattered Grid comic - directed this trailer.

Both the Power Rangers: Shattered Grid trailer and comic series received great reviews by fans, to the point that Kyle Higgins was in talks with Saban about a possible TV series based on the concept. Sadly, those talks proved short-lived as Hasbro later acquired the Power Rangers brand from Saban, putting an end to the idea. A story for the next movie reboot has yet to be confirmed, though it will reportedly feature a time-travel storyline. Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not Okay With This) is signed to direct the new movie.
