Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #101 by Melissa Flores and Simona Di Gianfelice finds the titular Teenagers with Attitude drawn to the newly reappeared Moon thanks to a distress signal from their old foe, Lord Zedd. Using the Dragonzord to make their way to the Moon, the Power Rangers are immediately attacked by a legion of dangerously enhanced Putties and encounter a terrified Goldar running from the very minions they expect him to be leading. Rita Repulsa Returns

Rita Repulsa has always been a terrifying threat, but this dramatic reappearance totally changes the game for the power dynamic between the two iconic Ranger villains. While Rita was the initial big bad of the Power Rangers franchise, Zedd almost immediately asserted dominance when he first came onto the scene, establishing himself as Rita’s true master as the self-proclaimed Emperor of Evil. And while the duo long partnered together to defeat Zordon and his Power Rangers, it was always clear who was truly the more powerful between the two.

The Power Rangers' First Foe Means Business

By launching an attack on her own dreaded Moon Palace, Rita really cements her new status as an evil powerhouse. Not only does she represent a massive threat to the Rangers and to Earth, but the fact that she was dangerous enough to force Zedd into seeking out the Power Rangers for help should really put her dark new abilities into perspective. After all, anyone who can take down one of the Power Rangers’ most iconic villains is a force to be reckoned with.

Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa are two of the most iconic Power Rangers villains ever. But these recent events make it clear that their old dynamic no longer applies. And if BOOM! Studios' Mighty Morphin Power Rangers have any hope of taking down the new and improved Rita Repulsa, they’re definitely going to need the legendary Power to protect them.
