It still seems like a dream come true, but the comic book crossover Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has just gotten even more nerd cred, debuting the variant cover for the series' debut issue -- recreating the iconic cover to Marvel's Infinity Gauntlet #1, Thanos and all.
Yes, as if it wasn't already enough of a sales pitch to see Leonardo and Jason the Red Ranger unite against Tommy and Shredder, the teams had to go and pay tribute to Thanos himself. The five-issue limited series event is made possible by an alliance between IDW, BOOM! and Nickelodeon, bringing the forces of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles together for the first time. Given the historic powers being united, it only seems right to evoke the image of Thanos, on his own quest to unite the greatest powers in the universe. We'll leave it to the fans to decide if Shredder is worthy of the same spotlight, but the overall artwork from Cover Alpha Comics and Matt Frank is a thing to behold.
The five-issue series is being written by Ryan Parrott (Power Rangers: Necessary Evil) with art from Simone di Meo (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), and set to begin on December 4th, 2019. The variant cover in question pays homage to George Perez's immortal Thanos, Gauntlet, and Grin. It will be offered as an exclusive by Cover Alpha Comics, with interested readers able to pre-order their variant cover now, but everybody gets to enjoy the artwork below:
As if the premise alone isn't enough to get fans on board, they can feast their eyes on the first plot synopsis (betrayal!) and credits below. In addition to the official cover art by Dan Mora, there are also a range of variants by Goni Montes to collect, featuring each of the Ninja Turtles holding the helmet of the Red Ranger.
