Speaking exclusively to Screen Rant, Kevin Feige revealed that Marvel Studios is still interested in doing a Power Pack movie. In 2004, Marvel Studios began to work on the idea of self-financing their own films. It took Marvel a year to get their plans in order, and in 2005 the as-yet-untested studio announced plans for what would become the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The first wave of properties Marvel looked to develop included characters like Black Panther, Cloak & Dagger, and Power Pack. That lineup changed over time, and Marvel soon focused on the idea of building a shared cinematic universe that would climax with The Avengers. Power Pack was put on the backburner, but last year we learned that Marvel was still interested in this potential franchise. Producer Jonathan Schwartz was given executive oversight on the project.

There have been no updates since September 2017. Speaking to Marvel's Kevin Feige at the press junket for Ant-Man & the Wasp, we took the opportunity to ask if he could tell us if there was any progress on this potential film. He explained that Schwartz is attached to Marvel Studios, and is currently focused on Captain Marvel. But the studio remains interested in Power Pack.

"Power Pack is a property that we've been interested in for a long time. For many years because we wanted to do something for families, something that's a little younger, Ant-Man has kind of become that franchise, certainly with Ant-Man and the Wasp, but Power Pack still is one of the many things that we discuss, wouldn't it be fun to do someday?"

It sounds as though development on Power Pack has essentially stalled. Feige's comment suggests that the studio wanted to do Power Pack because they believed it was different to anything else in the MCU, centered upon the idea of families and accessible to children. That particular niche is currently filled by the Ant-Man franchise, and so the idea of Power Pack has been shelved for now. At the same time, it's clear Feige still believes Power Pack could be a winner. Like Blade, it's a property that Marvel will probably use at some point, but seems to have no immediate plans for.

Power Pack was a unique and innovative concept, created by Louise Simonson in the early '80s. The comic starred the four Power children - Alex, Julie, Jack, and Katie. These children were exposed to alien energies, and were granted tremendous power. Although only kids - the youngest, Katie, was a 5-year-old - the Powers decided to use these new abilities for good. The characters were children, but Simonson used the book to explore a wide range of adult themes, ranging from pollution, drug abuse, kidnapping, gun violence, and homelessness. In 1984, the Power Pack kids actually teamed up with Spider-Man in a one-shot designed to fight sexual abuse. They've always been one of the most socially aware Marvel properties, and in the 2000s an older Julie became one of Marvel's flagship lesbian characters.

It's great to hear Marvel still wants to do something with Power Pack, but a little disappointing that they're unlikely to be part of the Phase 4 plans. It will probably be a while before we get any more news.
