20th Century Fox has unveiled The Japanese website and first poster for the upcoming Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. This doesn't seem to have anything to do with to Jean-Claude Van Damme's Street Fighter film of 1994 which I thought was pretty fun (and funny) as a 9 year old.
That being said, I probably couldn't bear to watch the entire thing all the way through again without the aid of alcoholic beverages.
The Japanese website can be found at StreetFighter-Movie.gyao.jp although it has nothing on it other than this picture as of yet.
Have a look at the poster and see what you think:
Street Fighter is based on the classic and once-super-popular Capcom video game franchise of the same name. It stars Kristin Kreuk of Smallville fame as the lead character Chun Li (played by Ming-Na in the original) and other recognizable actors including Neal McDonough, Michael Clarke Duncan, Moon Bloodgood and Chris Klein.
The poster doesn't do much for me, but it does show that they're sticking to the original costume for Chun Li's character from the video games. The film apparently doesn't feature main characters Ken and Ryu, and is instead an origin story for secondary character Chun-Li. The film also apparently sets up potential sequels if it manages to make any money. I look forward to seeing the first trailer for this film.
Capcom is attempting to revitalize the franchise by timing the release of the film to coincide with the release of the long-awaited Street Fighter 4 video game which is due out during the first quarter of 2009.
Did you guys see the first Street Fighter? How do you think this one will turn out?
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li hits theaters February 27th, 2009.
