While the start of a new year can be exciting it can also be bittersweet for some. It's definitely bittersweet for television fans who realize that a new year means their favorite show might be ending for good.
2021 is going to be a rough year for some television fans has several popular shows are coming to an end. And while shows ending is sad at least, the shows have been given a chance to wrap up their stories instead of being canceled on cliffhangers like so many others. Still, saying goodbye is never easy.
Atypical
Atypical has had its up and downs when it comes to gaining the attention of Netflix subscribers but the teen dramedy series has managed to survive. In February of 2020, the series was renewed for its fourth and final season that is expected to premiere sometime this year.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused production to be halted, Netflix and the creators are still striving to get season four out by the end of the year. As for what to expect for season 4, many Atypical fans are hopeful that the show ends on a high with every character getting their version of happily ever after.
Better Call Saul
Better Call Saul has had quite the run especially considering it is a prequel to the AMC hit series Breaking Bad. As far as prequels go, it's one of the best out there. With five seasons currently available, Better Call Saul is set to end its run with a 13-episode sixth season that will air sometime this year.
When the award-winning series wraps up, it will have finished with one more episode than its predecessor Breaking Bad. As with most productions, physical production has yet to begin but the writer's room has been busy writing the final season.
Dead To Me
The Netflix hit dramedy series Dead To Me is also set to end when its third season drops sometime this year. Many fans and critics are still quite shocked that the female-led series has been able to stay on the air for three seasons but that's all thanks to the tremendous writing staff and the talented work of Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini.
Fans are hopeful that season three will pick up right where season two left off which if you don't remember ended on a massive cliffhanger. Hopefully, some of their biggest unanswered questions will be answered as if the women will face any consequences for their crimes.
Dear White People
Another Netflix original that is set to end sometime this year is Justin Simien's Dear White People, which was inspired by his film of the same name. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the final season of the dramedy series ever since it was renewed back in October 2019.
Fans are hopeful that the ten-episode season will bring some answers to the secret society Order of X that characters were made aware of at the end of season 3. In addition, the series will most likely continue to explore real-life issues that are affecting Black individuals in today's world.
F Is For Family
When F Is For Family wraps its fifth and final season sometime this year it will become one of Netflix's longest-running original animated series. Created by Bill Burr and Michael Price, the series centers on an Irish-American family who is as dysfunctional as they come.
Fans are hopeful that the final season will continue to showcase the family's everyday dysfunction while also touching upon the mystery surrounding Frank's mom. The writers have also confirmed that a new character will be joining the cast: Ceascescu.
Grace And Frankie
Grace and Frankie is one of Netflix's longest-running and best comedy shows but unfortunately, the series will be ending when the seventh season drops sometime this year. The seventh season was first announced back in September of 2019 but production has yet to start due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
While the decision to end the show after seven seasons wasn't entirely made by the writers, showrunner Marta Kauffman is okay with the news since she and her team of writers will be able to give these two amazing characters a proper send-off.
Keeping Up With The Kardashians
Love them or hate them, there is no denying that Keeping Up With The Kardashians has definitely made an impact on the reality television genre and on the world of pop culture. The family sitcom first aired on E! back in 2007 and is set to end later this year with a total of 20 seasons.
The family took to Instagram to announce the news of the show's ending. It seems as if the family was behind the decision to end the show as they are ready to live their lives without cameras following their every move.
Ozark
Ozark is yet another Netflix original that will be ending in 2021. The drama series stars Jason Bateman as Marty Byrade, a financial planner who is on the run after a money-laundering scheme has gone wrong. Unfortunately, Byrade's family has gotten involved in the mess and the once distant family must find a way to reconnect.
The fourth and final Ozark season will start airing sometime this year but it will be released in two parts both consisting of seven episodes each which have got fans expecting the best. While the writers haven't given away too much they have confirmed that a few new characters will make appearances in the final season which will shake things up for the Byrade family.
Shameless
The Showtime original dramedy series Shameless has already begun airing its eleventh and final season which is set to conclude early this year. While fans were gearing up for a final season, they weren't totally ready for the Gallagher family to have to face the harsh realities of the COVID-19 pandemic in the final episodes -- a decision the writer's team felt they needed to include.
With the Gallaghers time on television coming to an end, fans are hopeful that fan-favorite Emmy Rossum will return in some capacity for the final season.
Superstore
Fans of the NBC workplace sitcom Superstore were hopeful that their beloved sitcom would live on after the departure of main character Amy Sousa (America Ferrera) but unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case. News dropped in December that the show's current season, season six, would also be their last.
Unfortunately, the news was a shock not only to fans but the cast and crew themselves. This is definitely a case of a show being canceled instead of ending on its own terms. Still, the writers have assured fans that the characters will get a proper send-off. And if that doesn't reassure them, the possibility of a Superstore spin-off might.
