Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is full of famous faces, and here’s every celebrity that had a cameo in the movie. Music mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is the brainchild of the comedy troupe The Lonely Island (Comprised of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone) and is just as hilarious as the viral Saturday Night Live song sketches that made them famous. Riffing on pop documentaries like Justin Bieber: Never Say Never or Katy Perry: Part Of Me, the movie chronicles the rise and fall of pop rapper Conner Friel AKA Conner4Real (Samberg) after his band The Style Boyz break up and he embarks on a solo career.
Alongside Samberg in his starring role as Conner, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping features fellow Lonely Island members Taccone and Schaffer as Conner’s former bandmates Owen and Lawrence and Tim Meadows as his manager Harry Duggins. The cast also includes Sarah Silverman, Joan Cusack and Imogen Poots – as Conner’s publicist, mother and girlfriend, respectively – while Maya Rudolph plays his corporate sponsor and Chris Redd portrays his tour mate-turned-rival Hunter the Hungry.
The Samberg-fronted music mockumentary is positively brimming with A-list cameos too – from a smorgasbord of big names in the music industry to talk show hosts, Hollywood talents and a handful of fellow SNL cast members. Several of the celebrities featured in Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping play themselves (or least comically exaggerated versions of themselves) including Emmy-winning star of The West Wing Martin Sheen, talent show judge Simon Cowell and singer-songwriter Seal – who has a hilarious cameo that sees him perform as part of publicity stunt orchestrated by Conner’s management that involves a pack of trained wolves who react badly to Seal’s vocals and end up mauling the audience. Ringo Starr’s cameo, meanwhile, happened thanks to producer Judd Apatow’s many connections.
Considering the high-profile cameos The Lonely Island managed to nab in their music videos, it shouldn’t be too surprising that Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is such a star-studded affair. In fact, Justin Timberlake – who plays Conner’s personal chef – has appeared in several Lonely Island videos including “Motherlover” and “D*** In A Box.” Their music videos and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping aren’t the only star-studded projects The Lonely Island have helmed either. In 2019, the comedy troupe released a Netflix special titled The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience that featured cameos from the likes of Jim O’Heir, Sterling K. Brown and the band Haim.
