Chapter 2 of Poppy Playtime is officially announced, and there are many classic toys that could inspire new monsters in the series' future. Huggy Wuggy, Kissy Missy, and Mommy Long Legs are terrifying in their own right, but even scarier abominations could be coming in future chapters. Players might see their favorite childhood memories twisted into horrifying monsters as the series continues, but which ones are impossible to say.

In Poppy Playtime Chapter 1, players explore an abandoned toy factory in an attempt to free Poppy, the titular doll of the game. Along the way, they'll have to contend with the likes of Huggy Wuggy, a seemingly-innocuous blue toy that quickly turns out to be a horrifying monster that will kill them at the first opportunity. The game takes a lot from Five Nights at Freddy's but has its own unique set of scares. Players don't need to know all of Poppy Playtime's lore before playing, but it helps to at least look up Huggy Wuggy. It bears at least a passing resemblance to a sock monkey, which makes sense given the parallels that other characters such as Mommy Long Legs and Poppy herself have to other real-life toys. The chapter ends with Huggy Wuggy's presumed death and the player freeing Poppy, but Chapter 2's plot is currently unknown.

There are a few classic toys from the '80s, '90s, and beyond that could inspire future Poppy Playtime monsters. Chapter 2's Mommy Long Legs has been compared to the classic Betty Spaghetti, and with all of the classic toys in the world, the developers are spoiled for choice as to which ones to turn into menacing creatures. Turning them into monsters could be easier for some than others, but as Poppy Playtime has proved, it's not hard to take something fun and turn it into something scary. What happened to Poppy Playtime's Playtime Co. employees has yet to be revealed, but they could have been made a part of some truly twisted toys.

Glo Worms Could Be A Future Poppy Playtime Monster

Poppy Playtime Glo Worm

Glo Worms, named because their heads lit up when they were squeezed, were a popular toy in the '80s for young children. It wouldn't take much to turn this cuddly worm into a horrifying monster. Just about anything can be scary when ballooned to a massive size, and with its unblinking eyes and soft smile, it already starts to be creepy if one looks at it for long enough. If the glow was replaced with spotlights in its eyes and it was a good bit bigger than the player, then not much else could be needed.

It wouldn't be Huggy Wuggy, with its mouth full of fangs, but it could carry its own serene horror that might make it even scarier. Finding more GrabPack hands in Poppy Playtime might not be of any use against a titanic creature that could kill the player just by crushing them with its tail. Dying is scary, but dying by being crushed by a giant worm with glowing eyes is even more so.

A Horde Of Troll Dolls Could Come To Poppy Playtime

Poppy Playtime Troll Dolls

Troll Dolls are an extremely popular toy that began in the '50s and gained most of their popularity in the '70s and '90s. Recently, they've gained a resurgence with several movies that gave them a fun new design, but the originals could be a truly horrifying monster in Poppy Playtime. Unlike the Glo Worm, who could be scary if it were big, Trolls could be scary if they stayed small. A large group of them acting together has the possibility to become a terrifying force, one that could be difficult to escape from. Depending on how fast they are, they might kill players before they can solve Poppy Playtime's security door code puzzles. Given razor-sharp teeth and some well-placed close-ups, they could be the scariest monsters in the series.

Polly Pocket Could Be The Next Poppy Playtime Monster

Poppy Playtime Polly Pocket

Polly Pockets were another popular toy from the '90s. They were small plastic cases with a clamshell design that had tiny dolls with their own miniature houses inside. Whether a Poppy Playtime monster based on them would be based on only the dolls or also the classic cases is tough to say, but they could be terrifying either way. Finding helpless little dolls and helping them get back to their safe case only for it to snap shut, possibly with sharp teeth, could be a great way for the game to show players that they should never let their guard down in Playtime Co.

If it did use the trapping option instead of having it be a mobile enemy, then it could lose its luster quickly, but there are ways around that. Just like Poppy Playtime's Make-A-Friend room, it could force the player to interact with a Polly Pocket monster in order to unlock the way forward. Restoring power, retrieving vital items, or simply replacing them all before a door will open could create a sense of anticipatory terror that leaves players shaking in their boots.

Cabbage Patch Kids Could Turn Terrifying In Poppy Playtime

Poppy Playtime Cabbage Patch Kids

The Cabbage Patch Kids were one of the most popular toys of the 1980s. They were small plush dolls with their own little backstories and adoption papers, and they were coveted across the country. If Poppy Playtime wanted to turn the brand into a nightmarish monster, then it could need a bit of work. A bigger size, perhaps a bit larger than Huggy Wuggy, would help. A rotating head, since the original dolls did have plastic heads and fabric bodies, could also make it scarier.

The biggest thing that could make it scary, however, could be a general look of neglect. If future Poppy Playtime chapters take players outdoors, then finding a doll half-buried in the mud and having it chase them for the rest of the game could be terrifying. A dirty, poorly-maintained doll with rubbed-off paint, loose stuffing, and ragged stitches sounds much scarier than one that's fresh off the line. If there was an audio element to it, having it cry and wail for a former owner could make it even more terrifying, as well as heartbreaking at the same time.

Furbies Could Live Up To Their Reputation In Poppy Playtime

Poppy Playtime Furby

The Furby is possibly the easiest toy that Poppy Playtime could turn into a monster. The reason being, it kind of already is one. Furbies were wildly popular in the early 2000s, and although they seemed cute and cuddly at first, it didn't take long for that to change. The dolls quickly gained a reputation for being frightening. If Huggy Wuggy isn't Poppy Playtime's Experiment 1006, then a Furby monster could be a great candidate.

The real-life toys were scary due to the fact that they could speak without batteries, would randomly turn on by themselves - often in the middle of the night - and occasionally spoke with a demonic-sounding voice straight out of a nightmare. If Poppy Playtime wanted to turn it into a monster, then it doesn't have far to go. Just putting in the standard Furby, with enough cosmetic tweaks to avoid copyright infringement, could be all the game needs.

If it were changed to somehow be even more terrifying than it already is, however, then that could be done easily. Some sharp teeth and monochrome black eyes, perhaps with glowing red pupils, could go a long way. Poppy Playtime takes a lot from FNAF, which has simple but terrifying designs. What could make it the scariest it could be, however, is to have it simply do nothing. Seeing them sit on shelves and chatter demonically, perhaps after removing the batteries like in real life, could create a low-level terror that has players constantly looking over their shoulders. The anticipation could be worse than any jumpscare. Poppy Playtime doesn't always need a sudden fright to scare the pants off of its players.
