The next part of Poppy Playtime is set to release sometime in 2022, yet the popularity of Chapter 2's featured monster, Mommy Long Legs, is overshadowed by Huggy Wuggy. Love for the horror character has grown so much, that MOB Games recently debuted a plush toy of Poppy Playtime's Huggy Wuggy. Unfortunately for the company's newest character, Mommy Long Legs will have to leave quite the impression on players in Chapter 2 in order to surpass the popularity of Huggy Wuggy.
The first part of Poppy Playtime blew up in popularity after its release on October 12, 2021. In the indie survival horror game, players explore the abandoned Playtime Co. toy factory and search for members of the staff that have been missing for 10 years. Fans control an ex-employee and quickly discover that everything is not quite safe inside the building. The ominous factory is filled with puzzles to solve and possible danger lurks around every corner. The threat in the game comes from Poppy Playtime monsters, all inspired by classic toys.
The first enemy in Chapter 1 is Huggy Wuggy, a blue monkey-like toy that chases the main character around the factory. If this tall and lanky monster catches players, he eats them with his shark-like teeth. In the game, Huggy Wuggy was originally the most popular product sold at Playtime Co. His outward appearance is a furry toy that looks innocent enough. However, in the game, he is anything but friendly. This juxtaposition is what makes Huggy Wuggy so unnerving in Poppy Playtime. The blue monster has grown a following online largely thanks to a trend on TikTok and YouTube. For a while now, users have been making videos of this toy, featuring creepy lyrics from the fan-made song "Free Hugs" by YouTuber TryHardNinja. The videos have become so widespread, that police have been warning parents about Huggy Wuggy. Unlike Chapter 1's blue furry monster, Mommy Long Legs has not been as popular online so far.
Poppy Playtime's Mommy Long Legs Isn't As Known As Huggy Wuggy
Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 was set to release in March 2022. Unfortunately, that month came and went, and no new date has been given for the next part of the survival horror game. The trailer for Chapter 2 - uploaded to the official MOB Games YouTube channel - offers fans a glimpse at what to expect from Mommy Long Legs. She is pink and features four stretchable limbs that are used to crawl around like a spider, so it's safe to say that a challenge in the next part will be to escape her far-reaching grasp. In the trailer, fans can hear Mommy Long Legs call the main character "A new playmate," hinting that her goal may be to prevent the player from leaving the factory. Some theories have been made online, but further details of the pink spider-like monster remain unknown.
Comparisons have been made between Poppy Playtime and Five Night's at Freddy's because of the similarities in the survival horror genre. Regardless of game preference, there is no denying the popularity of Huggy Wuggy. The antagonist of Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 is still mysterious, but only time will tell if Mommy Long Legs becomes just as popular among fans.
