Lily Collins is turning into a real-life Polly Pocket for a live-action film based on the beloved '90s toy, with Lena Dunham as director. The film will be based on a young girl who befriends a pocket-sized woman, and the duo embark on a playful adventure. The film is just one of many upcoming Mattel projects based on throwback toys.

Mattel will be partnering with MGM and Dunham's Good Thing Going for the film. The company first introduced Polly Pocket dolls in the late '80s. The various Polly Pocket characters would come with a variety of outfits and colorful pocket-sized dollhouses. Collins will embody the classic toy, meaning there's plenty of opportunities for whimsical outfits and settings.

Polly Pocket has provided inspiration for an animated TV series, but this will be the first live-action film based on the dolls. Both Dunham and Collins expressed their excitement about the upcoming film, according to THR. Check out their quotes below:

I’m so thrilled to bring to bear both my love of this historic property and also my deep-seated belief that young women need smart playful films that speak to them without condescension, Dunham said.

As a child who was obsessed with Polly Pocket, this is a real dream come true and I can’t wait to bring these tiny toys to the big screen, Collins said.
