Netflix releases The Politician trailer. Co-created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan, the upcoming anthology series released first-look images last month. In February 2018, Murphy signed a five-year deal with Netflix.

In The Politician, Ben Platt stars as Payton Hobart. Hoping to become the United States President one day, he first seeks to become the student class body president in Santa Barbara, California. To gain the sympathy of voters, he names Infinity Jackson (Zoey Deutch), a cancer patient, as his running mate. As the election process intensifies, Platt and Infinity learn about the Dos and Don'ts, as they are criticized for their behavior and past remarks. For The Politician season 1, Murphy and company enlisted movie veterans Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Lange for supporting roles. Bohemian Rhapsody actress Lucy Boynton is also one of The Politician’s main cast members. Both Bette Midler and Judith Light have guest roles in The Politician, along with Dylan McDermott and January Jones.

Netflix debuted The Politican trailer. As a whole, the nearly three-minute video captures all the chaos of a typical election campaign. In this case, however, the drama is contained to a high school setting. The clip begins with Platt’s Payton introducing Deutch’s Infinity, which sets the tone for the inevitable drama as the political candidates attempt to appear relatable. Unfortunately for Payton, he didn’t anticipate that his sweet-looking running mate would be accused of foul language online. Check out The Politician trailer and new poster below.

Through rapid-cut editing and several Payton breakdowns, The Politician trailer details the various subplots of the anthology series’ first season, along with the diverse cast of characters that will appear. Visually, The Politician appears to be a colorful series, literally and figuratively, one that will explore race, class, and gender, along with “inalienable rights,” “civil discourse,” and “political correctness.” Based on the character dialogue, the Netflix series will take a wink-of-the-eye approach when addressing controversial issues associated with the modern political climate in America.

Murphy has created, produced, and directed numerous popular television series. He developed the Fox musical drama Glee with the aforementioned Falchuk and Brennan, and the trio also created the comedy horror series Scream Queens. In 2018, Murphy produced FX’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, which won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Limited Series. Most recently, he created the FX series Pose, and also has two more TV projects in development for Netflix, Ratched and Hollywood

Aesthetically, The Politician trailer will undoubtedly please the average viewer. And the narrative themes will intrigue younger audiences who connect with the high school premise. Looking ahead, The Politician season 1 could very well become one of 2019's most-watched series as hype for the U.S. presidential election campaign ramps up. At the very least, The Politician will keep Netflix subscribers entertained with its cast of accomplished performers.
