The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, and Game Freak have worked hard on Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to bring fans a fun adventure within this universe. Of course, while the game has only just been released some are attempting to fill out their Pokédex already! Some are more difficult to find than others, however.

From the most secret of figures to the legendaries, there are a range of Pokémon that are essential for catching them all, but players have already been struggling to capture them because of their strength and rarity. There are various tips on how to catch them, for those who are set on completing this journey.

Koraidon

Koraidon is a Fighting and Dragon Legendary Pokémon, who is commonly associated with Pokémon Scarlet. Those familiar with the series will be well aware that these end-game level Pokémon are incredibly powerful and tricky to defeat, with a limited chance to add them to the Pokédex.

However, Koraidon is a little different with the Pokémon joining the player early on. There is an option to add a battle-mode variation of the character to a player's team after they have used them as a traveling companion, but what's more complex is there is also a rare opportunity to catch a clone of the Legendary, a parallel of sorts to trade or keep.

Miraidon

An Electric type and Dragon-type Pokémon, Miraidon is the kind of character that fans will likely want to see return down the line, because of its gorgeous visual design and importance to the story. Another Legendary Pokémon, it's the mascot of Violet and joins players on their travels.

Everything about Miraidon mirrors the same techniques of Koraidon, with the player taking the opportunity for a limited time to move the character into their battle party and getting the rare opportunity to capture a parallel iteration, which is a heavily guarded secret.

Wo-Chien

Wo-Chien in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

A Dark and Grass-type Pokémon that sits in the Legendary category too, from a design perspective Wo-Chien is quite a unique and rare-looking character, reflecting an ancient snail who perhaps feels more at home hiding in the long grasses. The process of catching it isn't easy.

Players must collect 8 different blue stakes to reveal a shrine that will help them identify this incredible being. The shrine itself is difficult to find and then capturing the character will prove to be challenging. Far from cute, the character will certainly be one to look out for, especially for those looking for the rarest finds.

Chien-Pao

The Dark and Ice-type Pokémon is another mysterious figure that players are going to want to add to their team. The character is one of the many rare Pokémon that are slightly more difficult to find, with the cat-like features certainly standing out and playing into the lore and mythology of the series.

Just like catching Wo-Chien, catching Chien-Pao poses a similar challenge involving 8 different blue stakes, which when collected will reveal the shrine. It can be a long process to get to grips with, but the rewards of potentially adding the Legendary to the Pokédex is well worth it.

Ting-Lu

The similarities in setup continue with Ting-Lu, who is another incredibly intriguing character that adds a lot to the lore of the universe. The character is a Dark type and a Ground type, which is a great combination, plus a Legendary in the Pokédex. Visually, it looks a little like a rocky deer.

With a container of sorts on his head, Ting-Lu is an unusual-looking figure. Just like its predecessors on the list, it can be found in a shrine after collecting these mysterious stakes. Beginners should know that they should follow up on this legend if they wish to add a mighty Pokémon to their ranks.

Chi-Yu

The Paldea Region offers up plenty of different Legendary Pokémon to collect and Chi-Yu is among the strongest. As a Dark and Fire combination, there's unlimited potential for how players could use the character if Chi-Yu was to be added to their team.

Just like the other Legendaries of Scarlet and Violet Chi-Yu is so rare and difficult to find because of collecting their stakes across the region and discovering the shrine. Those final confrontations are always tense and many will know the risks of facing a powerful Pokémon in battle.

Ditto

Ditto Pokemon Sword Sheild

Ditto has always been a difficult and rare figure in any Pokémon title because of its shape-shifting abilities. The character doesn't appear often, with the Normal type posing a challenge since its very first appearance. Scarlet and Violet hide Ditto in plain sight once more.

Ditto will appear at random just as it does in other titles. It's always a surprise when the Pokémon reveals itself and the only tip on how to truly find it is to continue to capture as many lower-level Pokémon as possible, with ditto likely hidden among them. It's all about luck.

Dudunsparce (3 Segment)

Dunsparce has been a mainstay of the titles for a long time. Players have been intrigued by its evolution process and have looked for the evolved iterations of the character within the wild. It seems so rare to find a Dundunsparce in the wild right now, with no one reporting to have located one.

That isn't to say it's impossible though, but the 3 segment evolution is all based on luck. When a Dunsparce changes there is only a 25% chance that players will get a 3-segment variation of the character, as opposed to the slightly more regular 2-segment.

Dratini

Dratini is always a difficult character to locate but those who are a fan of this mainstay in the series will be able to find it in Scarlet and Violet. That's a positive note for those who continue to enjoy going back to older generations, especially this Dragon type.

There are a few really useful location guides out there based on Dratini, although players are somewhat mixed on where the best place is to find the Pokémon. Regardless, the figure is a brilliant character to evolve, and can make a genuine difference in battle but continues to be a rare find often located near water.

Shiny

Shiny Pokémon are a major feature of most titles from the Game Freak saga. It would be a mistake not to mention them, as there are a good variety on offer, which players are continuing to discover as they progress through Scarlet and Violet.

There are no good tips for finding shinies, as it all comes down to luck. However, if the player does come across one, it's important to always attempt to catch them. Finding a shiny of the same type is so incredibly rare that to miss it is to perhaps never see the same one again.
