One of the many Spooktober-themed pocket monsters featured during the Pokémon GO Halloween 2022 Part II Event is Phantump, a Grass- and Ghost-type tree stump also featured in Sustainability Week 2022. Until Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. local time, Trainers will be able to encounter Phantump in the wild more frequently and potentially hatch one from 7 km Eggs. Unfortunately, Phantump is on the list of Halloween Pokémon that cannot be Shiny during this event.

Nevertheless, Pokémon GO fans are presumably eager to learn how to evolve Phantump into its much more formidable form, Trevenant. This evolution can be performed by feeding Phantump a total of 200 Candy, which is a massive amount compared to most pocket monsters in the roster. There are multiple ways to farm Phantump Candy in Pokémon GO, such as using Phantump as a Buddy, catching Phantump with Pinap Berries, and transferring extra Phantumps to the Professor. Trainers embarking on this evolution route will need to work hard as Phantump will become a much rarer encounter after November 1.

On the other hand, there is a much easier way to evolve Phantump in Pokémon GO. According to Attack of the Fanboy, Phantump possesses two evolution paths, similar to Pumpkaboo. Pumpkaboo can also evolve into Gourgeist with 200 Candy, but players can remove this Candy requirement altogether by trading Pumpkaboo with another Trainer. Likewise, if players trade Phantump with another individual and then trade it back, Phantump's Candy requirement will turn to zero.

However, there are elements of trading to keep in mind when attempting to trade Phantump for its evolution in Pokémon GO. First, players should consider how "close" they are to the friend they are trading with. A trade's Stardust cost with a Good Friend is substantially different from a trade with an Ultra or Best Friend. If players are attempting to trade Phantump with a random user, this exchange will cost up to 20,000 Stardust for both parties. Of course, this amount is not an issue if both have Phantump registered in their Pokédex in Pokémon GO.

Moreover, with Pokédex registration in mind, Trainers are highly encouraged to ensure their trading friend has another Phantump to trade in place of a random pocket monster. This will make the trading process much smoother and cost the minimum amount of Stardust possible. Once the Phantump trade has been completed, players can open the info screen of the Dark- and Ghost-type tree stump to evolve it into Trevenant in Pokémon GO.
