There are many Pokémon out there and they are all so surprisingly different. They all have different abilities, moves, voices, personalities, and appearances. Some Pokémon are quite cute and have viewers making goo-goo eyes at the screen. However, other Pokémon are quite intimidating looking. True fans of Pokémon know that looks are not everything when it comes to their strength.

Specifically, some of the most intimidating-looking Pokémon have some of the lowest stats and do not perform well during battles. It's not that weak Pokémon are bad and trainers don't want them. Each Pokémon is very beneficial for its own reason. However, it becomes confusing in a way when a Pokémon looks fierce but is actually quite weak. Below are some of the most intimidating-looking Pokémon who are actually weak.

Banette

The creepy-looking doll Pokémon Banette does not possess creepiness in real life. That is to say, it looks scarier than it is. Banette is a Generation 3 ghost-type who is full of anger and vengeance for being thrown away.

However, these feelings don't necessarily pay off. Banette has very low base stats, none of which reach above 100. His attacks do reach 115 but even this is a low number in comparison to other Pokémon. Plus, Banette has to keep his mouth closed at all times, or else he won't have any energy left.

Alakazam

Pokémon TCG had to get creative with Alakazam cards without its full evolution line.

The yellow goblin-looking Pokémon Alakazam looks nowhere near like how it performs. Its base stats are significantly low especially when it comes to Hit Points, attack, and defense. These three aspects of battle are extremely important so trainers who fight with Alakazam are already at a loss.

It has 3 special attacks that are rather strong but other than that there is not much that can save Alakazam's looks. This Generation 1 psychic-type is extremely intelligent, but unfortunately, that is not enough for battles.

Beedrill

Keanan's Beedrill amongst its hive in the Pokémon anime.

Let's just say that if Beedrill was flying around in real life, everyone would flee. However, his looks do not match up to its painfully low stats. Not a single one of its stats exceeds 100. The most powerful stats that Beedrill has is its attack coming in at 90.

This bug and poison-type Pokémon has looks that are likely compensating for its weakness because boy it looks intimidating. Even its name is pretty scary-sounding. It is from Generation 1 and it's full of poison, but this does not help it in the long run.

Machoke

Machoke looks like a powerhouse when in reality it is a very weak Pokémon. Ironically, it's a superpower Pokémon which kind of seems like a title that is just based upon looks. Real superpower Pokémon would be much stronger than Machoke.

Regardless, this fighting-type Pokémon is from Generation 1 and it certainly has low stats. Its strongest aspect is its attacks that are at 100. It's extremely slow in comparison to other Pokémon. Machoke has so much muscle that it has to wear a belt. So where's the strength?

Steelix

Steelix prepares for battle

As if Onix isn't scary-looking enough, it evolves into the ferocious-looking Steelix. It's a good thing that Steelix is as intimidating as he looks because this steel and ground-type Pokémon has some low stats. It has a pretty strong defense at 200, but every other aspect of fighting is super low.

Steelix defense is likely high because its body is stronger than diamonds. Its speed is ridiculously low coming in at 30, and its other base stats don't go past 100. This is arguably one of the scariest-looking Generation 2 Pokémon but it is certainly one of the weakest.

Blastoise

Mega Blastoise Pokemon

It's funny to think that a Pokémon that evolves from Squirtle is intimidating-looking. Squirtle is such a heart-throb. Regardless, Blastoise might look tough but it's pretty weak when it comes down to it. This water-type Pokémon is from Generation 1 and its stats are consistent but low.

Meaning, they don't fall lower than 78 but the highest they reach is 100. Blastoise uses the jets on his shell to blast water at opponents, but this is essentially the most effective move he can do. Pokémon with variety are always better off in fights.

Salamence

Salamence in the Pokemon anime

Any trainer who is up against Salamence is probably worried right off the bat. However, once they start battling they will soon realize that its looks don't mean much. This ferocious-looking dragon Pokémon is a dragon and flying-type which sounds strong. Its stats are definitely on the low end though especially for Generation 3.

It has rather strong attacks at a 135, but this is the highest base stat that Salamence has. All of its other stats are very average which is fine in some cases but not most. Trainers really have to work hard in fights if they are using Salamence.

Persian

This sly-looking cat Pokémon Persian is not all that. It looks like it's going to take down most Pokémon is fights but its stats are low. The highest base stat it has is its speed at 115, but every other stat is painfully low. They don't exceed 70 which is quite weak.

It makes sense that Persian is not one of the strongest Pokémon because it is a normal-type cat Pokémon from Generation 1. Any fan who hears this combination automatically understands that none of those aspects could be an advantage. Persian is simply very average when it comes down to it. It's quite majestic and attractive, however.

Pidgeot

Pidgeot flying in the Pokémon Anime

For some reason, flying-type Pokémon seem to trump a lot of others. However, Pidgeot is an exception. It is a normal and flying-type Pokémon that looks extremely fierce, but its stats don't match its looks. The Generation 1 Pokémon has the highest stat of 101 which is speed, but the others don't go past 83.

It makes sense that a flying-type has a higher speed. Still, the fact that Pidgeot is a normal-type as well likely brings down its stats significantly. The only thing Pidgeot has going for it other than its intimidating looks is its sharp talons.

Hitmonchan

Hitmonchan is a fight-type Pokémon who is always wearing boxing gloves. Seems scary right? Wrong. Very wrong. Any trainer would be lucky to fight against Hitmonchan because this Generation 1 Pokémon has very low stats. In fact, it's stats are all over the place which is already a slight advantage.

Consistency is key during Pokémon battles. Its attacks and self-defense are kind of high. However, everything is quite low. Hitmonchan always stands confidently and this confidence can intimidate opponents. Still, it doesn't pay off in the end.
