Pokémon Unite, which was released just this year on Nintendo Switch and mobile, is a different kind of game than Nintendo usually makes, but it moves the Pokémon franchise into fun and new territory. It is a multiplayer online battle arena game that is won by a team scoring more goals than their opposition.

Absol is one of the strongest Pokémon to play in Pokémon Unite because he does tons of damage early and, with proper positioning and farming, he can help snowball the rest of the team into winning the game. All this being said, there are a few tips that will help any player step up their game with him that they can carry through the entire battle.

Choose The Right Held Items

Absol's held items in Pokémon Unite

Each Pokémon can hold up to three items at one time, each of which has a various impact on damage and health in-game. The best items to stack on Absol are Scope Lens and Energy Amplifier.

Scope Lens increases Absol's critical chance and damage and Energy Amplifier increases his attack damage after he uses his Ultimate Move. Because most of Absol's moves will be on cooldown right after using this ability, this helps him stay in the fight and still do useful damage.

Take Feint First

Feint is a high damage ability that is similar to Diana's Q ability in League of Legends. This move gives him a small dash and a big burst of damage that will scare enemies while also taking a chunk of their health.

This is great for farming in the middle area of the map and makes his early snowball even more effective. Not to mention, with this strategy he can easily kill Pokémon like Pikachu, who never evolves in this game, just like Absol.

Try To Get Mid Role

Speaking of the middle of the map, Absol scales best when he can solo farm for experience early and then go help out other lanes when needed.

The best way to get this role is to use the communication tool in the Pokémon select menu to message the team that Absol is going mid. While the chat function in this game is really limited, it is important to show intent for a desired lane before the game actually starts.

Any time that two Pokémon are already in a lane together and the enemy mid is visible on the other side of the map, starting a fight is beneficial to Absol and the team. Because of Absol's damage, if two other teammates are distracting enemy players, he can come in from behind and clean up with kills.

This lane wipe also helps that lane to score all their current points and potentially help them level up faster. All this being said, new characters are still coming out on Pokémon Unite and it's always good to understand their abilities before picking a fight.

Team Fight Strategically

Similar to the last tip, Absol is a great Pokémon to have in a team fight, but it's important to know when to not go in and when it's right. He should always try to go after backline enemies who have more ranged abilities because they tend to be easier to kill than the front line.

Coming into a fight from behind or the side can help disorient the enemy and also give him better access to the squishier Pokémon, like Venusaur, whose solar beam move has ridiculous range and can turn a team fight just as fast as Absol.

Take Sucker Punch

Absol's Sucker Punch move allows him to chase any enemy in a certain radius, down and potentially kill them. Because Absol is a short-range damage dealer, this ability can help him enter any fight or chase down enemies to get that last hit.

Psycho Cut, on the other hand, does a short wave of damage, but it doesn't have any movement that will get Absol into a fight as fast as possible. Overall, Sucker Punch makes him more useful to the team and can also help him traverse the map.

Take Advantage Of The Map

A map in Pokémon Unite

Map awareness is a huge way to raise the level of Absol's gameplay because he is great at coming into a fight or helping tip the odds into the favor of his own team.

Early on in the game, he does considerably much more damage than other Pokemon, but he also has a small health bar, so it's important to get in and get out while checking in on the map, so he doesn't get isolated from his team by enemies.

Use Your Ultimate Move For Objectives

A description for Absol in Pokémon Unite

Absol's Ultimate Move basically allows him to be untargetable and do an immense amount of damage to all enemy Pokémon and camps in a small circle. At the end of the ability, he also pushes them away, allowing space for him to escape after using all available abilities.

This move is great at last hitting enemies, as well as important objective camps, such as Drednaw and Rotom. Holding onto this move until it's absolutely necessary will affect how some of the most important battles in the game will turn out.

Avoid Fighting Overly Defensive Pokémon

Absol is extremely good at last-hitting other Pokémon and works well on other glass canons. However, Blastoise and Alolan Ninetales, who is one of the best attackers in Pokémon Unite, both have slow or tank abilities that directly counter Absol.

If it's an impossible fight to avoid, let the defense Pokémon use all of their abilities before using damage abilities, so that Absol's moves aren't slowed or minimized in effect.

Score Double Points At The End of The Game

During the last minute of every Pokémon Unite battle, all points scored are worth double. While most of the game it's better to stock up on points and score them when points are maxed out, when it's late into the battle, it's better to score as soon as Absol collects any points.

His ability to get away quickly allows him to take advantage of the double points and try to outpace the enemy team. This strategy works best when the enemy team is distracted by teammates on the other side of the map.
