The Pokémon Trading Card Game’s next English release is Silver Tempest, an expansion set full of interesting V, VMAX, and VSTAR cards. Silver Tempest is largely a combination of the Incandescent Arcana and Paradigm Trigger expansion sets, which were Japanese-exclusive releases. As a result of combining the two sets, Silver Tempest does not include every card from both sets, but instead is a selection of some cards from each. As one of the final expansion sets for the Pokémon Sword and Shield era of the Pokémon TCG, Silver Tempest features many exciting cards, especially in regard to the V and VMAX card types.

Every Silver Tempest card in Pokémon TCG’s expansion that has been revealed is pretty captivating. With 246 cards total, there is a variety of featured Pocket Monsters from across the different Gens. Silver Tempest even features some Pokémon that haven’t been featured in English sets for quite some time, such as Venonat, as well as some more popular Pokémon - like the iconic mascot, Pikachu. As the last Pokémon TCG expansion set for the Pokémon Sword and Shield era in 2022, Silver Tempest is a beautiful ode to Gen 8.

The Pokémon TCG first introduced the V-type cards in the beginning of the Sword and Shield era. Pokémon V cards feature basic Pokémon who are more powerful than regular Pokémon cards, but the artwork of Pokémon V cards is also much more stylized, making these cards highly sought after for competitive play and collectors alike. Some of the best full art cards from Paradigm Trigger, which includes several Pokémon V cards, have been included for their U.S. debut in Silver Tempest. Here is every Pokémon V card included in the SIlver Tempest set:

  • Serperior V (Ultra Rare)
  • Chesnaught V (Ultra Rare)
  • Reshiram V (Ultra Rare)
  • Alolan Vulpix V (Ultra Rare)
  • Omastar V (Ultra Rare)
  • Lugia V (Ultra Rare)
  • Regieleki V (Ultra Rare)

  • Hisuian Arcanine V (Ultra Rare)
  • Ursaluna V (Ultra Rare)
  • Regidrago V (Ultra Rare)
  • Skuntank V (Ultra Rare)
  • Ho-Oh V (Ultra Rare)

Of these cards, many have come from the Paradigm Trigger set. Released exclusively in Japan in October, every Paradigm Trigger card in the Pokémon TCG featured a potential preview of Silver Tempest, but it’s the Pokémon V cards that have been specially featured. Cards such as Chesnaught V, Omastar V, Hisuian Arcanine V, and Skuntank V come directly from Paradigm Trigger, whereas cards like Serperior V and Alolan Vulpix V are from Incandescent Arcana. These V cards are a good mix of both sets and pave the way for even cooler VMAX and VSTAR Pokémon cards.

In addition to the Pokémon V cards, Silver Tempest features a decent amount of Pokémon VMAX and VSTAR cards too. Pokémon VMAX cards were introduced at the beginning of the Sword and Shield era in the Pokémon TCG, with VSTAR cards being revealed in the Brilliant Stars expansion. Of the Silver Tempest promo cards for the Pokémon TCG, there is one featured VSTAR card, Lugia VSTAR. Silver Tempest also features significantly more VSTAR cards, with only one confirmed VMAX card in the expansion set. Interestingly enough, most of the Pokémon VSTAR cards in Silver Tempest aren’t featured as VMAX cards in previous Pokémon TCG sets. Here is every Pokémon VMAX and VSTAR card included in Silver Tempest:

  • Serperior VSTAR (Ultra Rare)
  • Alolan Vulpix VSTAR (Ultra Rare)
  • Regieleki VMAX (Ultra Rare)
  • Unown VSTAR (Ultra Rare)
  • Mawile VSTAR (Ultra Rare)
  • Regidrago VSTAR (Ultra Rare)
  • Lugia VSTAR (Ultra Rare)

All of these cards are making their debuts as Pokémon VSTAR, or in Reieleki’s case, VMAX cards, just in time for the end of Gen 8. While Silver Tempest isn’t ending Sword and Shield sets just yet, it is the final Pokémon TCG main expansion set to be released for Gen 8 in 2022. This information gives these VMAX and VSTAR cards an even stronger air of importance, as they were specially chosen to help celebrate the end of Gen 8, as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet creep closer to ringing in Gen 9. As exciting as these VMAX and VSTAR cards are, there are still more surprises within Silver Tempest.
