The Pokémon Trading Card Game is bringing back the ex mechanic with the Scarlet and Violet sets, and many monsters have already had their ex forms revealed. The Pokémon Company has been incredibly secretive about the upcoming Scarlet and Violet sets in 2023, revealing only a few hints at what they might contain at the 2022 Pokémon World Championship. However, after a few teasers and accidental leaks, the more ex forms have been unveiled.

In the past, the ex mechanic worked in a variety of ways. When the ex label first appeared in 2003's EX Ruby and Sapphire set, ex monsters were simply stronger forms of regular Pokémon who costed trainers one additional prize card if they were knocked out. With the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet TCG set, the ex mechanic will now be related to Terastal Forms. Certain ex logos will appear plain on cards, but those that spell ex with crystaline font will be Terastal Forms whose benefits still remain unclear.
